Me neither. I’ve met up twice with my parents together at my Dad’s house which makes it three households, but almost entirely outside because the weather was good. Chuck in my brother this weekend and it’s four households. I’ve also met with ONE friend who lives alone on two occasions now completely complying with rules (no masks in restaurants but masks everywhere else inside).

I honestly don’t even know if I’ve broken the rules or not. Seriously second guessing the planned work meet-up on Friday at the pub.
 
The sheer audacity of Hancock blaming people who have no symptoms. Yes because everyone fancies a day out to have a swab rammed up their nose.

Anyway hasn’t it been proven that a quite a few carriers are asymptomatic, so if these people know they have it doesn’t it help ? CUNT

He's such a useless drone. "C'mon everyone, let's jump in the car and go for a Covid test, it'll be such a larf!". I'd love to see him strapped to a propeller and flown from London to Glasgow where we'll use what's left of him to build some unusual percussion instruments.

It's hardly surprising the Tories like Tony Abbott - he's an unabashed cunt. He's aspirational to them.
 
I think he might be confusing Coronavirus tests with the morning after pill and it's just force of habit.
 
Sounds good to me as a way to try and snuff it out if the vaccine goes out of the window (everything crossed that the pause really is just routine) but how we'd manage to fund and deliver 66 million tests per day when we're struggling to do 200k is another question...

Not that I think they are able to do this but I think without a vaccine, our second best hope is super regular (say, weekly?) mass testing. I would absolutely do it if it meant being able to live semi-normally.
 
BBC just reported a ridiculous graph of age groups and the cases rising within them. They ONLY reported the high cases for 20-29 year olds, then 30-39 year olds, then jumped to a low figure for 70-79 year olds. I'm more interested in the jump for 50-69 year olds.

There was a graph during the briefing with all age groups shown. 20-29s still WAY out ahead.
 
I don’t actually think any of this crap announced today will make a blind bit of difference.
 
We have Freshers Week starting on Monday, I'm thinking work will become a lot less safe once campus is full of students again :eyes:
 
The cases as a result of schools going back is unlikely to impact for a week or two. Which is why the cases are going to keep rising.
 
Surely this is specifically for freshers week? As it would be hard to enforce the two household rule considering you can have like 20 people in a halls of residence?

People have been lax for months. We are half way through the second week of English schools returning, no? Scotland schools have been back for almost 5 weeks
 
I have no idea how my Uni is dealing with this for the new term. Now that my year has been extended I should probably know.
 
I think this is going to be much more tuned in with the weather more than anything. Rule breaking outdoors was broadly fine. Rule breaking indoors is where the issues really start.
 
Did Boris just come out with this “announcement” today to make it look like he is actually doing something? Surely he will need to come in with a lot more stringent rules in the coming weeks.

The only way anyone is going to take any notice at all now is if they do another proper lockdown, which I think is inevitable. There's no other way. Mr Sheena managed to book a table for 7 for next weekend at a restaurant without anyone batting an eyelid until I mentioned that it's now clearly in contravention of the new rules...
 
When the numbers keep rising then I definitely think it is inevitable that hospitality will have to close again and at their busiest time of year towards Christmas/New Year.
 
Actually, I agree with Sheena. A second lockdown really seems likely as this is going to spread over to the older generations and to those with underlying health problems and hospitals are going to be overwhelmed again.

I don’t think there’s much of a freshers week here this year anyway. Last I heard, the organisers were trying to do a few bar crawls. I know I’ve already said a few times but the bars are all forcing people to do track and trace and are limiting the amount of people allowed inside anyway. I can’t speak for the entire country but I can’t see freshers week having a huge impact here.
 
I can't see a September in which student house parties aren't a big thing. Especially in areas with large concentrations of student housing. It's already started in Belfast and we're still a week or two off Fresher's.

I can guarantee the restaurants and pubs will be open for at least the Xmas and NYE fortnight.
 
The thought of another lockdown :zombie: Surely the economy would completely go to shit even more so than it has if that happened? I feel that's what would stop them from doing a national lockdown again...
 
I think we’re on the edge of local lockdowns vs full blown lockdowns. To be fair to the government they have actually acted and at least made an announcement within a week of things really taking off again.

But in pretty much all pandemics of past the 2nd wave is always worse. People were scared/shocked in March and I’m genuinely surprised how much of the country abided by the rules then tbh. But even with another nationwide lockdown...people will not listen as much. “Oh I don’t know anyone who had it” “I stayed in the house for 3 month last time and I don’t know anyone who died from it” etc etc

I just can’t see how they can contain another outbreak without them shutting pubs or hospitality. I agree with @Ag too. I really think they will throw everything at this being gone/at least safer by Christmas and New Years
