the Netherlands encouraging 10 days quarantine for travellers from my city upon entering but it's not required. I don't know what to do :(
 
People can not get tests as the numbers are going up exponentially yet Matt Hancock is blaming ineligible members of the public going for tests on the unavailability. What a crock of SHIT. Spain and France are over 10k new cases a day yet are not having issues testing people. This country really is an absolute JOKE.
 
I’m starting to think “issues with testing” is more down to the fact that the government don’t want to admit to the public that the virus once again has ran out of control. It really wouldn’t surprise me if we are hitting numbers as big as France and Spain.

Where are you coming from? NOBODY coming here is quarantining. The approach is very laissez-faire and the Dutch are blase (to put it kindly).

Not that I’m offering it as an defence to the situation, but we are carrying out more tests in the UK than in France, Germany and Spain.

This is from an article on BBC News:

“Analysis from Our World In Data, a research team based at the University of Oxford, suggests the UK is now performing more tests than many other countries.

“For example, the seven-day average up until 10 September showed the UK had carried out 2.8 tests per 1,000 people. This was ahead of European countries including France (2.1) and Spain and Germany (both 1.8).”

they updated for travellers from Copenhagen yesterday, orange level. so they encourage quarantine but don't enforce it. I think I'll go, unless it escalates further obviously. I just wouldn't risk mentioning coming from Copenhagen and being chased out with pitchforks. glad to hear that's not the case!
 
That post is strangely comforting @Nancy as I was talking myself into the fact that it was spreading like wildfire here right now. We can’t be quite as bad as France and Spain YET.

I am only guessing, but I wonder if our European neighbours have more targeted testing and clearer messaging around what circumstances you should request a test.

I think there is some truth in the fact that people in the UK are requesting tests when they don’t really need them. Not that I blame them for doing so. Coronavirus is a frightening prospect for many people. But the fact that anyone can request a test is obviously putting a strain on the system.

James O'Brien is talking about it this morning. It seems that is part of the story. There also seems a bigger gap between capacity and tests done in the UK and we use different tests as well from some other countries, so straight comparisons are difficult.

Exactly what it is IMO. First they got cagey with the "number of tests" stat just as the numbers started going bad, and now this - because they don't want to cause panic (read: it's gone to shit again and we're probably at around 6000-7000 if people could get tests still, but they don't want people to be put off from visiting their sponsors such as Pret)

Matt Hancock is an absolute wank. He was quite genuinely saying that people were just having them because they were free! Yup, that's a fun day out, a 400-mile round trip to be deep throated by the world's most evil cotton budd, whose turn is it to be pretend to be ill this time, kids? let's GO AGAIN AND AGAIN!

Cases are going up, but deaths arent. Why would we go into lockdown if its not killing/hospitalising people?
 
The NHS Trust I work for had zero Covid positive inpatients for a long while leading up to this week. It was three the other day, now it is up to six. Obviously nothing like the numbers from earlier in the year but it is still concerning.
 
Today’s confirmed new cases was sitting at about 4k. If we have a lot of people unable to get tests surely that figure is a fair bit higher than that.

It was always going to happen. When the amount of cases went up it wasn’t going to take long to spread to the vulnerable/elderly.
 
Oh REET, don't get me started on CHRISTMAS. Most years, I'm normally about a THIRD done by now, with the final bits to do in the run up to November 30th (simple fact, early Christmas haters- get it all done by Nov 30th, decs up on Dec 1st (and down by Dec 27th) and you can just sit back and enjoy the run up, which is the best bit). But THIS YEAR, I've done SHIT ALL, to be frank.

government in March when the virus is lethal - do nothing

government in September when the virus has already killed the vulnerable / has weakened / can be suppressed by the right medication - SEND IN THE NATIONAL GUARD!

Last year I didn’t take the decs down before I went to Ireland for New Year and when we returned I don’t think I have ever been quite as depressed. Once they came down I felt better straight away. Unfortunately I don’t even think we will get away this year.
 
In other news I was selected for the ipsos mori antibody study and I just took the test and I think I did it wrong :manson: it looks positive but my doctor friend says negative. OH WELL

THIS. It's SO FUCKING DEPRESSING having them up after New Year. Do it in between and then you don't have to worry about it.
