we have loads by now. Eurovision was without audience, concerts, theatre, sports. Netflix must be thrilled
 
I think it’s a bit BONKERS and irresponsible that non-critical UK office workers (especially in Central London) and such haven’t just been told to WORK FROM HOME ALREADY.

If you look at the stats from Italy, it clearly spreads VERY FAST once it starts spreading, and with 2 weeks for symptoms to show in some cases SURELY just eering on the side of caution isn’t such a bad thing when looking at the BIGGER PICTURE

It’s almost as if most management are too scared to be the ones to make the actual decision :eyes:

We're being LAX and I took the statement by the WHO today about “alarming levels of inaction” to be a direct reference to that (oh and those stupid Yanks). The government is trying to play off the ECONOMIC HIT against PEOPLE'S LIVES while claiming that BUT SCIENTISTS TOLD US

I did read Italy may be exceptional. It went wild there before people started taking common sense measures. Also, so the article said, many Italians live with generations of their family, therefore bringing it straight to their grandparents. This may be BS but its food for that it won't necessarily happen the same in every country. Look at Japan. They seem to have relatively bypassed it despite their geography.

Of COURSE testing and reality may of be quite far off, so we DON'T REALLY KNOW.
 
right now I'm very happy with climate changes so we don't have a harsh winter to deal with as well
 
Apparently we're moving into the next stage tomorrow which I assume will involve limiting public groups.
 
Australia certainly haven't been immune, although obviously their greater proximity to China could have pushed up the numbers relative to their climate.

My employer has 30,000 employees and only 5,000 VPN connections and can't get more quickly.

Keeping work going clearly more important than keeping people safe.
 
Can we assume the economy is going to be trashed after this whatever happens?

Similar in my place. We're making preparations to start working from home, but large companies just aren't set up for that style of large-scale remote working when everything's accessed via VPN.

God only knows how they'll manage call centres and retail.

There's been no opportunity! It's not like the stock markets have crashed or anything. I mean that was like 6th story on the news websites here.
 
We have a department of 250 on a single floor and no laptops or phones to work from home - yesterday they shut down the ENTIRE building down the road because someone has it. :D

The next few days are gonna be FUN.
 
Also in case anyone had any doubts, it's been made abundantly clear by our workplaces that the "health and safety of our employees" is NOT, in fact, their #1 priority. The bottom line is.

Again, no one ever doubted it, but it's nice to be reminded of it so flagrantly.

I'm ISOLATING all next week

Actually I just have the week off because if we don't use up our holidays by the end of the month we lose 'em. Of course, wanting to chill out for a week pretty much GUARANTEES that I'll get Covid-19 and Norovirus simultaneously

In theory I could work from home. Got plenty of web work to do, could remote in for other stuff.
My boss doesn't even trust me to work from work though judging by the way he's been loading me with jobs and breathing over my shoulder in case I spend 30 seconds shitposting on moopy or something so the chances of working from home are somewhere between none and lol. It's probably go in or accept the 90 quid a week or so for SSP.

Yes.

That's the worst part of it - economic trashing is usually taken out on the poor and the vulnerable so IMHO likely to cause a lot of death itself.

I work in an industry that is likely to be VERY heavily impacted by this whole thing in the coming weeks.
