Oh good, the reports people were saying of 2022 sometime were really getting me down. Let's hope things do actually move at a decent pace. It's good to hear so many over 80s are done, they just have to keep it up and hopefully go even faster so we can get say all over 60s and clinically vulnerable done and be able to relax a bit.

I'd get CRUCIFIED some places for saying this but I don't think eradication seems likely so at that point I'd start to kind of hope the rest of us can take our chances a little for the sake of returning to a life worth prolonging. Despite the risk of long covid, and that I have no right to impose this thought on others etc. At some point we need to get things active again, get people back into jobs and schools, see if a few pubs and restaurants have survived, get non-covid treatments back up and running in hospitals, and work on the nation's mental health. At some point along the vaccination roadmap those risks (untreated physical and mental health issues) will become a bigger risk than covid. I don't think I'm legit suicidal per se, but I've started having thoughts of "if this dragged on into 2022 and beyond I'm not sure how much I want to carry on" and there are people with MUCH worse mental health than me.
("Go see a GP", you say? That's a laugh innit)

Keep posting here and keep sharing your feelings and keep being open. And we'll keep reminding you of the good things. I'm feeling really quite optimistic after last night's announcement, because it's basically what we've all said is needed for MONTHS...

Yes, last night was fucking grim, but its the first thing Johnson has done for ages which might actually move us forward.

And as I said last night, I'm trying to separate my anger at the government and their handling of this from my coping with lockdown and the challenges it undoubtedly presents. But I do have some control over that. Use whatever support you need.

I've told work that despite us being advised to work from home, that I'm going to work from school. Last time had a significant impact on my mental health and as someone that lives alone, I need to be with other people in the day. Principal was obvs fine with that.

We have been told we have to work from home now unless we absolutely can’t. Before we had a choice. That’s some long days in my bedroom! Going to ask work to supply me with a chair as my lower back is killing me now.

As a lower back pain sufferer, I recommend spending a good chunk of the day standing at your desk (build a little fort of books or something to raise up your laptop/mouse) and go for a couple of half hour walks a day if you don't already. It's the only way I'm getting through. My trouble is when I start getting lax and start sitting for too long in my chair, and then the pain comes on

It doesn’t help that my shifts are 12 hours long! But I get 3 x 15 minute breaks and 1 x 1 hour break. I always make sure I get out on my hour long break!

You seem the yoga sort, @Nancy. I find that the child pose helps me when my lower back is playing up. I try to do it for a few minutes a few times a day when it gets painful.

Ooooh thank you! I will give that a go during the day tomorrow.

I’ve been having this discussion for months at my work. My two partners are very much of the “let people come in if they want to- mental health!” and for the most part I’ve gone along with it. Thing is, I totally understand and the first lockdown for me was saved by being able to go to my office. But I was the only person in the entire building, and someone needed to keep the place running. I made very sure my journey (flat-car-office-return) involved no one else or exposing anyone to any potential virus.

Which brings me to my next point. It’s not just about you and your mental health (though god knows that is important). It’s about the people you expose yourself (!) to in public. You could be asymptomatic and going on public transport or interacting with people at school. The whole “work from home unless you absolutely can’t” is vague- what isn’t under this government- but I struggle with the idea that this is ok.

I’m not judging you, really I’m not, I’m more airing my own doubts out loud, but I just don’t think the mental health argument is enough in this situation, when people’s lives are at risk from going about your everyday tasks.

I am torn on it myself, believe me, because I do see your point. But school needs to run anyway, and I will be tested weekly, and also me being in, means someone else who doesn't WANT to come in, won't have to come in. Of course, there aren't THAT many people that live alone in my school, so I am an exception rather than a rule (I can think of... one other? Living alone in London is pretty rare as most people couldn't afford to).

Ok, so “someone has to be in and it’s you vs someone else” makes it different, I hadn’t really considered that.

So fucking tough.

Let's be real here. If you walk or cycle to work in an building where no-one else is in, the risk is negligible.

Also yeah, I think tradies should be allowed into people's houses to sort out emergencies. You can't have someone living without water, heat or electricity for weeks. Just go into another room while they're there and wear masks when they're in. Clean the place afterwards if you must.

Just remembering back to my fridge breaking during the summer heatwave :eyes:
I'm getting worried about mine; of course I squandered all of the possible time in the autumn thinking "oh I'll sort it out soon" and now it needs to hang on another few months.

I think i'm just paranoid because our sink has been on the VERGE of blocking for months (it does this because the stupid landlord made our living room a kitchen/living room many moons ago so he could turn the kitchen into another bedroom, meaning the kitchen sink is in a stupid place and has to drain along a very long, completely horizontal pipe.)

I'd never actually do anything as I care about people too much and know they care about me (or at least, don't feel so bad as to be blind to that) so don't panic. It's more a sense of hopelessness but indeed hopefully we'll pull through it either by vaccines or the hard way with faster spreading (and hopefully less dangerous) variants.

Doesn't help my colleague/manager is getting brought back off furlough early in my place while I go back on, and some web work I could've been doing from home has been outsourced. I've been there getting on for 15 years so I'm sure redundancy isn't something they'd decide lightly (fair bit to pay out all at once) but the combination is worrying and last time I was unemployed it took YEARS to find a job. No bueno.
Being a whiny bitch as people have it much worse but yeah

Good people like you lot keep me going

Send the hamster down there with a toothbrush :emoji_hamster:

(srsly though, yeah that would definitely be an emergency. You can get some heavy duty drain unblocking stuff but god knows if it works on horizontal pipes :gross:)

I’d get a drain unblocker down it now before it’s a problem, there’s a scary pink one that comes in a cardboard box with a huge toxic warning sign that’s GREAT.

@Iguana @Nancy I tend to have issues with the lower back, now more so than ever because of working from home and sitting on a bumpy chair and no way to stand up, but these 15 minutes of easy exercises really offer relief, even just from the first time. I recommend a couple of times a week or whenever needed

Thanks Mats! I will give them a go.

Lower back forum now!

I get two buses each way to work today. I was the only person on both buses. It's much more like lockdown 1 out there this morning.

Also started getting lower back pain, so this is the fun of approaching 40. Will make a mental note of the posts here

Did Chris Witty really say that we will likely be in this situation again NEXT CHRISTMAS?

I’ve just chucked my “country style” bench on top of my dining table, put my laptops on that and it’s all kind of wonderful. Especially working two laptops I don’t have to twist to operate them both - I just step to the left or right :disco: I like that I can shuffle about and change stances with my legs but it never feels like I’m slouching or introducing bad posture.

Hopefully it is ERADICATED. I want my children to live a life that I had the chance to do and obviously I still have A LOT of living left to do.

Why are there SO MANY PEOPLE on the ROADS?
I never understand this. I live on a high street and the number of cars going up the road all day every day just never changes. Most of them are regular cars outnumbering vans about 5-1, so probably not delivery drivers. There can’t be THAT many key workers driving down the same road at all hours of the day.

Yes, for all the buses were empty this morning, there are about a dozen of us now, although it is the main hospital route.

And it's not normal rush hour bad, but considerably more traffic than lockdown one.

Have we had over 1,000 deaths in a day before? :(
Several times back in April, although they didn't admit to it at the time and sneakily altered the figures a few weeks down the line. I think this is the first time that they have actually announced more than 1,000 deaths in a day.
