Classes and exams have all been cancelled at my Uni for until the end of summer term. Ridiculous.
 
I went out last night, fully intend to be a hermit for the next two weeks as I do not want to get sick before I go on holiday. (which I'm still convincing myself is going ahead :D)

i'm just enjoying the last few days before people here get in panic mode. there are still only 23 cases here.
 
Well I spent the afternoon doing a big lesson about what coronavirus is and fielding any questions (which were more or less just variations of ‘is my gran going to die :( ‘ ) and so I have some really good child-friendly resources if anyone wants me to email them over for family or friends that might have anxiety.
 
I was unloading my trolley and the lady infront of me says 'Erm excuse me can you keep a 2 meter distance from me. My daughter is getting married this year and I don't want to die'

Yeah cos the rest of us REALLY want to die :manson:
 
The national library will be closed for guests. Those who can work from home will get to do so, those who can't will continue as usual which is most of the staff (including me). :)

I've just done a big shop, and all i couldn't get was rice and tinned tomatoes. Plenty of passata though, so that'll do.

I didn't even bother checking for hand sanitiser.

what will you do then without guests? take every book down and put them back again?

The testimonies that changed my thinking about it were from a friend with chronic health conditions and another thread whose husband nearly died from an asthma attack at Christmas (and I mean nearly died, this is not an exaggeration). Having heard their fears, I've changed my feelings but I'm also not running around getting other people in a flap because that's irresponsible too.
 
So most people where working from home today (we’re a public sector organisation of around 2000 employees) and turns out the VPN service can’t handle that many users at the same time, so most people have only been able to send emails from their phones.

Hun there's plenty of other stuff we do. Digitizing, archiving, sourcing, cataloguing, preserving etc. We have a lot of people working "behind the scenes". The librarians in the reading rooms make up only a small part of the staff.
 
I've developed a dry throat and mild cough over the course of today.

... It's probably psychosomatic, right? :eyes:

Thankfully the Uni library is still open. Thank fuck. They'd struggle to close the whole campus. People live there and are reliant on the assorted facilities there.
 
State of emergency from tomorrow here. I already isolated myself in my flat for the next 2 weeks. I have enough food and internet so I will survive, I'll keep myself busy trolling about the Eurovision drama.
 
I made an attempt at hoarding at the grocery store, I came out with fresh made lasagna for dinner, snacks and crème brulée.
