The 5G tower fire is the first time I've heard the coronavirus conspiracy theory.

Yes a metal tower will give you a sore throat and pneumonia. Fucking idiots. :goodgrief:
 
Yeah, I've had someone on my Facebook feed banging on about this being the result of 5G for a week now.

Edit: Oh God, I shouldn't have read the comments. He's also encouraging his friend to stop the vaccinations of her baby. CHRIST!
 
Another 700-odd deaths today, but number of official new cases has seemingly plateaued a bit.

We're 5th in the world when it comes to death, and 10th on a per-capita basis. And something like 60th in terms of tests per-capita. Yay
 
I'm going to make a mask out of a handkerchief and two elastic bands in case I have to go SHOPPING

THIS works quite well if you don't sew. Although elastic bands aren't ideal - I'm not sure how long my EARS will take that

708, so barely an increase on yesterday’s 684. I said it yesterday and was SHOUTED DOWN from CERTAIN quarters, but I really am hopeful this is the curve beginning to flatten.

Yeah it's pretty weird. The cough is mostly gone but the shortness of breath & tight chest only really came on full force yesterday (day 8). Feeling better today but it comes on in waves...

Question is, what happens if the rules are relaxed. Wuhan would be the place to watch, except the Chinese government seem a tad suspicious with their reporting.

For masks we got some HEPA filter hoover bags. Just don't get ones with fiberglass in. Sounds a bit questionable whether it can prevent you catching it, but it protects others in the event you have it but don't know as you aren't displaying symptoms yet.
 
Do we think the rules will be relaxed as of a Easter Monday? I am thinking no, but how long are they likely to extend?
 
I think end of May is realistic. Spain has extended to the end of April at least and we're 2 weeks behind them.
 
Please tell me this going back to herd immunity getting spouted by some government official is a CROCK?

Germany has the (business) lockdown running until 19th April and that started a week before the UK. And looking at Germany's numbers I'm expecting a month's extension.

I'm guessing an extension to the May Day bank holiday at first with a probable further extension to the late May bank holiday to follow.

There are elements within the Government who agree with Trump et al that the economy is more important than a couple of hundred thousand lives - in fact, it's essentially some of the same advisers. However, it doesn't appear to be government tack. I think it's being leaked to test the water on public feeling.

There is no question that the lockdown will be extended but it will be done in stages - it'll be for another three weeks which would take us to the beginning of May and then a bit more on top of that with maybe one small relaxation takes us to the end of May.

The Tory plan was for the NHS not to cope. It's just come to public attention in a way that they hadn't anticipated and that doesn't give them the end result that they wanted. Well, not yet.
 
Yeah I imagine they'll let everyone return to work initially, although still keep pubs/restaurants/entertainment venues closed.
 
With 700 people dying today, it’s very wishful thinking to have us all back in work at the end of Easter

As much as I miss the gym, good grief at the thought of having to commute on public transport

The economy has to be a consideration I think, but I'd not put it in such a callous way that it's more important than hundreds of thousands of lives (especially considering who close to me is in an at risk category), or that we should charge recklessly into herd immunity again. But pragmatically, the consideration has to be whether the long term implications of having the world on hold for potentially as long as 1-2 years (if that's how long it takes to find a way out which this TLDR News video would suggest) would actually cause a larger but indirect death toll through things like austerity, loss of livelihood / bankruptcies leading to starvation or poor health choices like drugs and alcohol, potential wars sparked by desperation, mental health conditions leading to suicides etc. (I know of one local in the last few days who's jumped off a bridge over all this and it's only just started). It's a horrible mess we're in and there's no way out of it that isn't horrible :(

I mean, we could have a new socialist world order (or at least in the country) where everyone gets a decent living wage to live a comfortable and happy life whether they're employed or not and then we wouldn't have to worry about "muh economy" and getting people back to inventing things to do and slightly shinier smartphones etc that someone will give them money - but sadly I don't think the electorate is going to swing that far to the left any time soon (nor could anything change for about 5 years anyway)

It'll likely be longer than the end of May I think. We haven't even peaked yet and they've no idea whether the social distancing has made any impact until a few weeks time. I read "immunity passports" are being touted which would allow some people back into the world. I think even when the lock down measures are relaxed, social distancing will last/be advised for the better part of 6-9 months EASY

I can't see pubs/restaurants etc. opening for at least another year, if not even longer. And if they do, they'll have to change or modify the layout / capacity etc. I imagine.

Life as we have known it may never be the same again.

There's a lot in this. Everything is pointing to the UK government wanting us out of lock down within 3 months as that's all they're willing to support financially. But the future has never been harder to predict than it is right now.
