They're interesting minutes though! And they give context, which is so important in an era where so much bullshit spreads because everyone is like "tl;dr" and wants their news in 140 characters and then just takes those 140 characters at face value.

There's a summary before he goes into full depth, I think the summary was roughly 5 minutes

But okay, how about what he wraps it up at the end:
So 3 different studies there, all showing basically the same thing: indicating that regardless of how severe the Covid-19 was, that long lived immunity is looking VERY likely from all of those 3 studies. And the reason I'm particularly encouraged is those 3 studies all agree with each other. So to me this means that herd immunity will be achievable (we still don't know whether it's at 50-60-70%), it means that the vaccines are VERY likely to be effective because the vaccines are generating these antibodies and we know that the vaccines are generating the T cell response. We now know that people with a good T cell response get a less severe disease, and we now know that people with a good T cell response that lasts for some time afterwards should be immune from re-exposure to SARS-CoV-2 and should therefore not get Covid-19 disease. And to me this means that we're going to get rid of this virus. Partly by herd immunity, but then when the vaccination comes along, I think we can eradicate it altogether and we can consign it to the history books the same as SARS-CoV-1.

Now, having said that, I haven't got enough information to state that DEFINITIVELY, but that's the way my thinking's been developing for some time, and these are 3 very good pieces of science that indicate that is likely to be the case.

One of the important points to take away was that the vaccines are very likely to be effective, which is what the Oxford one is currently trying to prove for its stage 3 trial.

Credentials... well he's an retired A&E nurse and nurse teacher. A doctor as in PhD - not a medical doctor, but no quack either. I've been following his videos for a while (he predicted all this back in January) and he's clearly shown little to no bias or agenda, masses of good research and always cites sources and tells you to go and read them for yourself rather than just believing what he's saying. He tells things as they are, good or bad, a lot of the time it's been bad.

Normally if someone is optimistic and claims there's some kind of HOPE, I tend to shrug it off, but when this guy is optimistic then... wow. Time to sit up and take notice. I'm not 100% and don't treat what he says as gospel (nothing worse than being filled with hope and it being popped like a balloon), but was encouraged enough by that video to have some very cautious, wood-touching hope that a vaccine such as hopefully the Oxford one will be effective and we'll kick this thing to the kerb sooner rather than later.

In other encouraging news, we're back under 1000 again and it's not Monday. 812 today and back down to 0.52% positive of those tested. Could be a down-blip of course.

This is me so thank you love :D Interesting. This after the announcement the other week though that they think the immunity only lasts 6-8 weeks... CONFUSING

That's part of the video :)

The immunoglobulin antibodies as picked up by those pin prick tests etc only last a short-ish time (I think he was saying 3-4 months from what he's learned) but they're just one part of the immune system. Once they've been produced, their "recipe" is kind of "saved to disk" in something else known as T cells (not sure but I think the in-depth lab tests where they pull blood from your veins can pick those up) which when they detect the virus VERY rapidly replicate and stimulate the production of antibodies. Fast enough that in most cases you wouldn't notice.

Can you summarise please.
 
If for no other reason, you don't want to panic thinking you have COVID-19 when you actually just have flu.
 
Also coming to mind:

If there's no covid vaccination this year, people will be panic-jabbing to avoid getting both at once
If there is, it might be hard to get the flu one because they'll be busy giving the covid one

I'm confused about the whole non-social distance thing and children. Is the evidence suggesting that children are pretty much immune or that they just don't get ill from it but still carry the disease? If it's the latter then it will blow up shortly when those kids pass it on to their mums, dads, grans, teachers etc.
 
And a big fat LOL at the UK Government saying it's okay for everyone to return to the office as the evidence is that it doesn't spread in the office :eyes:

Anyone over 50 is now invited for a free flu jab, so the process could take much longer.

You also have to wait at least a month between getting your flu jab and a COVID vaccine. They can’t be done at the same time.
 
I'm a little concerned by Matt Hancock saying that they are not considering making it mandatory to wear masks in the office because that basically guarantees that they will be considering it soon.

I had the same thought :D There is an assumed "... at the moment" in there
 
If they make masks mandatory in the workplace then they’re never going to get people back into the office.
 
I’ve also never had a flu jab and the last time I remember having flu was three years ago :D

Such a STRONG IMMUNE SYSTEM

I haven’t came across a nun at all since I moved here. Back home they are a staple. They used to pop in to the pub regularly when I was young and my mum and dad had the pubs
 
Last time i properly had flu was about 2010.

Think ive had it 3/4 times in total. I love it, i get hallucinations and shiz.
