I'd go crazy if I didn't have people around me for lockdown. It still makes me nervous that I could have been alone in Milan.

Hell for anyone in a bad living situation though.
 
We are allowed 3% absence in a 6 month period. Now, 6 months worth of working days on a 5 day week is 130 days. So 4 days is 3.07% - that triggers an absence review. So what you get is being on day 3 or 4 bringing all their germs in.

Has to stop.

I don't get fed up with being at home, but I do get fed up with working from home because of having to use a tiny laptop screen, having an unsuitable chair and the presence of constant distractions. Did you know that you can look at porn whilst working from home without getting dragged before HR? It's a miracle they get any work out of me.

There's a right time to get it, and a wrong time.

The right time to get it is not 3 hours before going for a weekly shop. *eats pasta and BBQ sauce for dinner*
 
I've been wondering how all these tight fisted HR departments are planning to handle the fact that most people probably haven't taken any holidays since March. Suddenly say we get a vaccine this year (oh shut up and let me HOPE), just as the company are trying to build up momentum again, everyfucker will be going on holiday like 2 weeks per month to catch up.

We were forced to take half our holiday before the end of June for this reason

Is she doing ok? Does she have bad symptoms or is she taking a test just to be safe?

We've been told that if we had any leave prebooked and if we subsequently book any leave, we can’t then cancel it for any reason. If you book a holiday and then something happens for it to be cancelled, tough. I think that’s quite fair though.

Every year it’s a case of use it or lose it, but an exception is being made to be able to carry over all of your unused quota into 2021 when the previous limit was 5 days. However, if you need to book a long stretch of leave in 2021 you should still give adequate notice on a first come first served basis, so any requests can still be refused if too many people ask for the same dates.

Not quite sure what I’m going to do though as my co-manager is pregnant AGAIN and due in February. It’s just going to be difficult for me to get any significant leave for myself booked next year for anything more than 1-2 days at a time.

Far too many people in my office try to sneakily take the piss. I’ll never forget a 40 year old woman having a semi tantrum a few years ago because she’d booked a holiday abroad for Christmas but just “forgot” to actually book the days off work. She missed the deadline simply because she never read her emails and had missed every single Christmas Leave reminder from August through to early December.

I worked with some one like that years ago, who booked flights so she could go home to Germany over Christmas and New Year EVERY YEAR to visit family without checking she could get the days off first. Always some excuse too - the flights were discounted for a limited time or she would lose money if she had to cancel. It meant others could never get time off over the festive period.

Our manager let her away with it on the grounds she had kids who would want to see their extended family so it was 'justified'. Until I threw a hissy fit that it was tantamount to discrimination that as a gay with no kids I would never be able to get time off.

I don’t understand these people. If it’s so important, why not just book it super early and then put a word in with your line manager months in advance to reserve the leave?

We have so many international citizens who fly home for Christmas and they’re generally responsible about it and don’t act entitled. The entitled ones are the British ones who just want to go on holiday. We also have an unwritten rule within teams that if you had to work Christmas the year before, should you want it off this year you will have priority.
 
So with the gyms opening in Scotland, how has it been in England? With the restricted hours, I am just imagining queues and not getting to use stuff I want to.
 
Gyms are still not open in my state (Michigan) but casinos and salons are :manson:
 
I'm with Pure and need to change my base gym if that's the term from one of the Reading ones to Up North, but I got an email to say opening hours through the week are 4am until 10pm there, so I do hope we match that as I really have no patience for busy gyms unless I'm with someone.

Not England but in NI it's been quiet. And the time slots make me more productive.

I've been going mostly during off peak times but went on Friday evening there and it was even more quiet.

Not that I don't want this bitch to VANISH asap but the number thingy was hovering in England between 0,7 and 1 for the whole of June - July and it's now back at +1. It is meaningless if attitudes relax, which is precisely what will happen once people think it's all fine if they get told the number is now below 1.

on the contrary people are more tense than ever since masks were made mandatory on public transport the past weekend. we had a minor surge a couple of weeks ago, rather local ones, and it's already deflating. it doesn't look too bad

a worse prospect is how doctors and hospitals are gonna cope when all the regular seasonal illnesses kick in

Manchester Pride is digital as well. Presumably the drinking ban is to try and discourage people from coming to the city for it anyway and slagging it up in Canal Street.
 
I must ask at this point, what do we think is likely to happen as we head in to the colder weather? I understand that no one really knows, but to me it seems unlikely that we will head in to another lockdown and although cases are on the up hospital admissions seem to be going down which leads me to think that the latest “blip” looks unlikely to be anything like the previous wave (I understand we are still in the first wave before anyone STARTS).
 
I don't think any country, including countries like Spain who have a far worse infection rate than the UK at the moment, is seriously considering another total lockdown, but regional ones are possible. Not sure how effective that is in comparison, but I don't think any economy can afford to have a total dip like March-June again this year, particularly around Christmas time when 3/4 of the yearly spend happens.

The admission rates are far lower now even if the infection rate is high because the average age of the infected now is much lower than back in March and they generally don't need hospitalization from the virus - back in March people were mainly tested only when they were admitted to hospital so the numbers went hand in hand.
 
It’s not going ahead but it’s still pride weekend, they’re still anticipating people to flock, just as they did in Brighton at the beginning of the month

Why are the cases in the elderly lower now? Is it because they are all scared to leave the house?
 
Probably because access to care homes is A LOT stricter now and the general public are a lot more aware now than they were back in March.

I mean I don't doubt the elderly are still getting infected but the main bulk of infections seems to be coming from the young. If that continues it will eventually start hitting the elderly again mind you.
