I mean seriously, whats the fucking point of it even existing?
 
35 million pounds that app has cost. Plus 11 million for the first failed experiment because they wanted to do it "the British way".
 
How can it have cost that much? I mean, I know how, but it can't have taken more than ten people bashing out code for 6 months AT BEST (/WORST).
 
I feel like we need a separate thread for the app.

Someone at work yesterday mentioned something which made me paranoid - does the bluetooth work through walls? Is it constantly logging close contact with your neighbours, and would tell you to isolate if they get it even if you haven't interacted with them at all?

It should do, if it works as described. It is a bit weird that I sit closer to my neighbours through the walls than I do my family when I see them!

I believe it also measures signal strength so if the signal was weak, such as going through a wall, it wouldn't count as a contact. I'm sure this question came up during our press briefing.

Would it tell you the place or time when you came into “contact”? My flat is on a high street and a bus stop is just outside, so could anyone passing connect with my Bluetooth? If so I’d just dismiss it.

Again, assuming it's similar to Scotland's app, there is a time element (I believe 15 minutes). So someone walking past isn't enough.

Pretty sure it doesn't in order to preserve anonymity. You just get a notification saying that at some point recently you've been exposed.

If it is like the Protect Scotland app, there is a risk of false positives like this however it is very low.

Just turn your Bluetooth off at home. Unless you care using it for another reason.

What's the point then if most people can't indicate a positive test? To tell you if you've been near a rich person with COVID 19?

I am reporting live from GAY SAINSBURY’S on Regent Road as I type. I can confirm this is not only a COVID SECURE environment to shop in, but that there are also several pieces of HOT TOTTY mincing up and down the aisles.
 
ZOE app offered me a test because I put in 'other' that I had a bit of a nagging semi productive cough, but didn't bother. Kings College have some agreement with the NHS that you can sort of "lie" to the triage and say you have covid symptoms (I don't, as the cough is not persistent) to get a test if they invite you, but I didn't feel comfortable with that and I'm like 90% it was hay fever related anyway. It's almost completely cleared up today, while also I've been good with remembering to take antihistamines the past few days.

Went through the motions though and found they had 180ish slots 7 miles away, so wouldn't have had a problem getting tested.

Is it just here or are the roads quieter than usual this weekend? I live on a relatively busy road - one of those charming one-decker estate buses goes down it :) - and it’s been unnervingly quiet these last two evenings :wired:

Battery on my iPhone however is not - it's at 87%. So, don't know what happened yesterday, but sorted now!

In other news I think we may have misunderstood the thing with putting a test result into the app. If you go to a drive in or walk in test centre, or I think if you get the mail order one, you CAN put your result in. The hoo-ha is over ones conducted in an NHS England hospital, so NHS staff etc. Still not great, but they're apparently working on it.

So my mum got unfriended and blocked on Facebook by her friend's 25 year old daughter a few weeks ago (mum is kind of like a surrogate grandmother to her) after she posted a photo of her having a party with a whole group of people. Mum just replied that she hoped the photo was taken a long time ago and that she was staying safe etc. Anyway, she's just tested positive for Covid!
