I heard this morning that a water polo teammate of mine has died at 42 of Corona :o He was asthmatic but otherwise a fit guy. He apparently developed it the day he arrived on holiday to Greece and was hospitalized a couple of days later, and died on Sunday :( I wasn't super close but what a shock. It's the second "apparently healthy" guy in his forties that I know that has died of it.

Yikes, sorry to hear that.

These instances are why I get very uncomfortable at the narrative that it's okay because it mostly "only" affects people with comorbidities or who are over 65.

Figure remains stable, 13972. Usual disclaimer about Mon+Tues often being low days (more Tues than Mon though I think)

Thank you very much, but I wasn't particularly close so I am not particularly devastated, just SHOCKED at the speed of it and the person it affected. I've been worrying about my elderly parents for the last 9 months and then the people that I know that are actually dying of it are all in their forties.

Not to be reviewed for another month, so I suppose it will depend what the numbers are like by that time (more than likely through the roof).
They're having discussions with other areas in the North and Johnson appealed in the commons for them to sign on to be level 3 is what I mean.

Well on the day my home city goes into lockdown and living alone becomes even more problematic, I found out that my contract isn’t being renewed because we can’t run the event we had planned next year. Whole marketing team cut.

Living my best life right now guys. Best life.

That sucks. Enjoy the free time however.

I have to go in for another 4 weeks if I want to get paid and I kinda do as I don’t know how long I’ll be out for. Luckily it was a well paid gig so I have savings, so it could be worse

my last day is 2 days before my birthday :)

My friend who had the positive test yesterday emailed her employer with the result (she was off with what she thought was a moderately nasty chest infection anyway), and today her employer has emailed all staff identifying her by name. I mean I guess I understand the reasoning, but has all right to confidentiality been suspended?

Oh no. I'm so sorry. We're all here for you, for what it's worth :emoji_heart:

Boyfriends had a negative result back, so he hasn’t got it... but can’t go home and isn’t being let back to work. Still, at least we don’t have to isolate.

Oh no, @funky sorry to hear about this. :(

Thanks for all the love guys. Just keep thinking that there are worse people than me right now.

Jesus, that's shit. Sorry to hear it.
Do you have an ear to the ground for any other contracts at the moment?

Ironically work has been so busy that I haven't had the mental capacity to look, even though the writing has been on the wall for about a month

I might give myself the rest of the year off, but I will start putting the feelers out. It's just such a shit time.

Thankfully not. There's lag but since it's mostly young people at the moment rather than care homes, deaths aren't rocketing. Some hospitals in hotspots are seeing pressure though so that's a worry.

What I want to avoid is the transmission route of kid -> parent who comes to work -> me -> my parents, as they would still be at significant risk as the virus itself hasn't changed and the current approved treatments haven't changed much (still just dexamethosone which slightly improves chances on a ventilator and remdisivir which just speeds up the survival/death process). Currently due to social distancing the risk of that is fairly manageable - it'd be a lot harder without it and just letting it spread

I worry about similar, about passing it onto my parents. I was talking to a gp friend at the weekend, our kids are in a bubble at nursery. She was telling me about this study that shows young children are very unlikely to pick up the virus and pass it on to anyone else. The risk comes from the adults, so it's more likely I would transmit to my parents than the kids would.

sorry to hear that funks. as somebody who lost their job in similar conditions this year I can relate and empathise. mentally tough times are ahead but I can help with anything you like, if you need someone to look over your CV or proof your cover letters or anything, just holler.mp3 - you'll be fine. but make sure to get on that job applications train ASAP if you don't want to take a long break as things are moving slower than usual atm, especially in your sector i'd imagine.

I think York currently has one of the highest, if not highest, infection rates for a Tier 1. Higher than many Tier 2. And yet, not a peep about moving to another tier. Odd.

Would there be some allowance for it being such a tourist trap? As in, during the winter months the rates will drop naturally without the influx of additional people?
That or you bring a lot of money in so you’ve been conveniently overlooked.

Oh SHIT. Of course all these other councils are resisting being stepped up and Essex is begging for it!

The numbers are going the wrong way but no household mixing is going to be crap, especially as I am going to have to defer my bubble spot to someone else this time.
