I’ll give you another reason as well- Tiers mean people are seeing things they are allowed to do in other tiers on social media and thinking that makes it alright.

That's pretty much what we've got in Scotland, apart from on the islands.

Quite, I’ve been watching it creep in over East London, plenty of areas over 1000/100,000 and a few at 1500. Actually quite reluctant to go back if it doesn’t slow down a bit. Haven’t discussed it with work yet as we’re playing it by ear but if it’s possible for me to work at home for January I’m not rushing back.
 
Also SURELY there’s no way they can be opening the schools in England after New Year, it’ll be a disaster!
 
We’re already being told that 'nothing should be ruled out to contain the increasing number of cases'. This means lockdown 3.0 in January.
 
Schools have been so much of the problem this time around. It’s impossible to contain the virus amongst kids.
 
If you close the schools, a lot of things will ground to a halt like it did back in March as parents can't go to work. Mind you, I'm not saying that's a bad thing, I do think we need more of a lockdown coupled with the vaccine being rolled out. Hopefully that would put us in a better position in a couple of months.

Me. We are lucky enough to have been given the option to decide to do whatever feels comfortable for us. My shifts are 12 hours long on a 4 day on/4 day off rota so it will do me good to carry on getting full days out of the house a couple of days a week. But the office is so quiet that four days in a row would drag too much.

Plus I cycle to work so I’m not putting myself at risk on public transport.
 
I really hope they look at my workplace with fresh eyes in January - I have a feeling nothing short of another full national lockdown and round of furlough would prevent my manager from having us still go in, but we'll see.

What is even happening there? Its one of the only states that is even doing anything to contain the virus, and the weather there makes it easier to have things outside. But yet the cases are SO high. Georgia is essentially 100% open and yet our cases are about half as high? It doesn't make sense

Well this is the dilemma. Either you grind things to a halt or you don't. This half way house ain't working, and schools/universities are probably the biggest sources of transmission.

Cases are going to rocket again in late Jan if schools go back as is.
 
Won’t these be from just the run up to Christmas? The worst hit may still be yet to come?
 
I thought they said that included the Christmas period as there's a delay in reporting those cases.
 
I guess it's the infections which were contracted over Christmas but no symptoms until later where the worst IS yet to come, though...
 
Yeah, but the people who may catch it from coming together on the 24-26th aren’t going to be confirmed positives yet, are they?
 
Back home today and took a cab back again. The driver said he had loads of journeys on Christmas Day with families dropping off presents and staying, clearly breaking the rules.
 
Are the register offices still closed from Christmas? Surely a massive number of deaths is incoming tomorrow/Wednesday?
 
I think the Oxford vaccine will be approved within a few days, but even then surely it's a push to get everyone vaccinated by June?

I know it was probably on some shoddy tabloid but I am sure I read somewhere that it has been approved and is getting distributed from next week?

It’s a push with a government as incompetent as this lot! I’m just hoping everyone 60 plus and those most vulnerable are sorted.

Gosh yes I really hope so. I really want my parents to have it ASAP. I feel like they still don't 100% take this seriously and it's always on my mind.

I’ve been trying to persuade mine to do click and collect or deliveries as their main risk is the supermarket but oh no. I had to tell them to refrain from telling me stories about other people’s behaviour in the shoos because if they were that bothered why were they still going ?!
 
Don't think it's been approved yet (there would have been much more fanfare), but it's expected any day now.

I think that's the whole aim; I reckon that as soon as everyone over 60, or those with underlying conditions, are vaccinated they'll drop a lot of restrictions.
 
It’s crazy to think I’ve not worked at my other job for nearly ten months now! :o
 
It's interesting that they say the infection rate was much higher back in April, I've read figures of up to 100k. But yet the number of people currently in hospital with it exceeds April.
