Why do you think you'll 'probably' get it when the majority of people so far haven't, and you've had one vaccination?
Hopefully I'm wrong, especially being around older people a lot and rarely anywhere near kids. Just thinking with the doubling time being around 10 days (around 6 if you go by Zoe data which tends to be a few days to a week ahead of the official stats) and shortening, the third wave will get back to 2nd wave peaks and beyond fairly quickly. It's all about the hospital numbers which indeed are a much lower percentage... allowing for more cases to spread before any action is taken to suppress it

Maybe the vaccines will create a "ceiling" stopping it getting that far, just thinking aloud really.

this is what happened in Sefton too, where I am. The outbreak was short.

you talk like you’re expecting the worst as an inevitability and that’s a sure fire sign of anxiety/OCD. The best thing you can do is stop reading about it.

Imagine if, every winter, you read up on all the stats about flu. How it spreads, the numbers, the likelihood of catching it, the symptoms, how you spread it, etc. You’d never go out. Being sensible and cautious is the best way to be but you also have to not let it control your life. Fighting anxiety with logic is not easy - I know. But you have to fight it. The most obvious response is to question how likely you are to suffer through mental health or stress related symptoms versus covid. Right now, the former is far more damaging to you. And, potentially, those around you.

look after yourself. Mind, not just body.
Yea most likely it is anxiety, it's pretty bad atm.

The thing is I kind of have to know because of living arrangements. As I say hopefully if I did get it the parents would be fine, but I just don't feel that it's responsible of me to just ignore the numbers while living with someone potentially vulnerable. Plus my dad also has anxiety and is always telling me the numbers anyway...

Statistically you're considerably more likely not to get it than you are. And now you have had one vaccine, you're less likely to get it anyway, and is less likely that it will be severe if you do get it.

Funky is right, defeating anxiety with logic isn't easy, but it's just about the best way to tackle it.

I think there comes a point where if the anxiety is so bad (and I was here last year when I asked to be excluded from the forum), where it makes sense to ensure you're keeping yourself safe and following advice, and then try to decide to opt out of actively looking for more info, and telling people you don't want to hear it.

Oh yes I opted out of this forum too for a long while

They're obviously predicting a breakout in my area, they've arranged two walk in clinics this weekend for anyone over 18.

I just walked past one and the queue is just insane, must be a two hour wait in the sun.

Probably all seen this but worth noting since the doom stories get shares so much, we should be sharing these as well. Pretty much what we were expecting and hoping to hear but it’s nice when it’s confirmed by a chief medical officer

I think that's another one of the issues with the doom and gloom stories which I've had to learn to remind myself - a lot of them are speculation rather than fact.

Good news girls, I'm not pregnant.

(thought with the numbers doing what they're doing it's a good time to start self testing a couple of times a week. Govt obviously not expecting people to do this as it asks a bunch of reasons wtf you're testing yourself for, do you have kids, are you caring for someone, are you receiving care.... no option for "no, I just care about not spreading covid", just "other reasons")

Really? I’ve been able to order boxes of the tests online in about 30 seconds, didn’t seem to pry too much into my life other than what address to send them to.

I've been using these as well every time am not feeling well. The only requirement here is that if you're found to be pregnant you have to immediately notify the covid heath service so that they can track down your contacts and have them tested. How much do they cost in the UK? Its 3 euros each here, but if you don't want to pay you can charge them on your employer (two tests per week per employee).

They’re free here. Two per person per week.

Although you can order a pack of 7 per day per household online so it can be considerably more than two per week for most people.

It’s no big deal but the questionnaire comes up when submitting your result to Big Brother (along with NHS login, etc). They also asked a couple of questions of the same nature when picking them up at Boots.

I think it’s to check if you should really be ordering a PCR test instead.

Oh I see. I haven’t been submitting my negative results. Do people actually do that?

I‘ve had to do it for an antibody trial I’m taking part in, albeit that makes a lot more sense.

You’re supposed to report any test result according to the instructions (p15, “you must report your results”, you also report failed tests

helps them with stats even if negative

I should point out that I don’t have to take them for work or for any other organised reason - I’ve just been taking them to get into the habit of it or if I’m going to be indoors with people.

That’s probably more than most are doing at the moment so I feel OK about being a tad sloppy with the ADMIN.

But yeah to be fair, I had similar thoughts with all the “you must” stuff, thinking “but I volunteered to take the test in the first place”

Guarantee that loads of people don’t report negative results. That’s why they stopped reporting the % of positives delay. It’s totally skewed. Vast majority of positives get acknowledged but not the millions of negatives.

I’m reporting mine. Not doing it twice a week, but always the day before I plan to go out anywhere to meet with someone outside my household, which still isn’t too often. Only done 4 negative ones since April.

I’ve been pinged!! Told to isolate for 7 days.

I have no symptoms and have ordered 2 types of test. I know even if they’re negative I still have to isolate but can I like go for a walk on my own?

Far as I know, if it's the app then no one actually knows you got pinged so you could use some common sense after getting a negative test (especially if double jabbed)

Track and trace is another matter

For the first time since October (!!:( ) we’re allowed out as late as 11 pm as of this week. It’s been a few days and I still feel the need to be home before 8 pm :( this curfew has fucked me up mentally in so many ways.

Here they still have a covid related ban on playing music publicly (the idea is that music being played in cafes, beaches etc would cause what they call corona-parties) which I hope it would last forever. I went to the beach the other day and all I could hear was extreme silence, nothing but the sea, it was beautiful.

Everything seems to be looking quite GOOD here over the past week. Cases are rising but the vaccine seems to almost definitely be doing the business.
