I agree with you, but then perhaps my view is skewed because of my work and things I've seen/ heard first hand.
 
I get that we have to manage anxiety and get on with our lives, but it’s like people have to separate it from being careful and considering the vulnerable, and can’t do both together. You can actually manage your anxiety / wellbeing AND be careful and consider others at the same time. It’s about finding a balance.

I’m very optimistic about these latest developments overall, but RIGHT NOW it’s a shitshow and we all need to be careful.

Baffles me how people don’t get it. It’s not complicated.
 
Regarding the possible good news about decreased risk of hospitalisation - is anyone else getting really weary of all the "ahhh but-" every time there's a hint of a ray of hope? Don't get me wrong, I'm not having a go and not suggesting anyone should bin the masks and snog all the strangers - continue being wary of course, I sure will - but it'd be so nice to see some good news "stick" for once and not be shot down in flames immediately by most of the "sensible" internet :(

Exactly this. It's obviously good that it is a smaller proportion going to hospital, but if it continues doubling every three days, at 50% less likelihood of going into hospital, that only gives you an extra three days before you're in the same position as you would be with Delta anyway.

The good thing though is that there is more headroom to work with, so mitigations won't need to be as severe as with Delta, and should there be a lockdown it will not need to be for as long, but it's dangerous for people to hear the good news without context and immediately jumping to licking each others faces again
 
Yeah never suggesting anyone goes licking faces again yet I'm just after a little bit of hope that maybe one day there may be light at the end of the tunnel. I know that realistically even if Omicron settles down a bit, it'll probably just keep mutating and keep us in and out of lockdowns etc. But you know, clutching at straws...

To be fair I don't think there's much more complacent most people can get than they have already been for several months. Everywhere is still heaving, most people are still ignoring the mask laws etc.
 
It was the only thing keeping most of going during Covid. The one consistent feature.

Now I feel lost and confused.
