Everything does seem to be fizzing out RATHER SWIFTLY, why do you want more restrictions when it seems to be dying down of its own accord VERY QUICKLY?!?
 
I’m not sure what difference restrictions would make at this stage really considering there’s usually a two week lag before it starts to affect the cases, and they’re rather likely to be going down by then anyway.
 
Record numbers here as well and both our King and Queen are now poz.
 
Despite the rising cases, almost every article I’ve read recently has had a fairly optimistic tone. Could this the last big wave?
 
So they’re scrapping PCR tests for people who test positive on LFTs but have no symptoms.

What brain dead twat came up with THAT idea??

To be fair this one makes sense due to limitations in the current testing system - I know people who have been waiting for over a week for PCR test results, and the seven-day quarantine period for them would start after the positive test result, not the test date.

It makes sense to me as the false positive rate on lateral flow tests is <1% so it should be good enough to confirm that somebody has it without waiting days for PCR confirmation.

False negatives are much more likely which is why symptomatic people still need to get PCRs.

Agreed in principle but I’m not sure that’s ever been the case… hasn’t it always been that your isolation starts from the positive lateral flow test result OR the day symptoms start?

I certainly didn’t restart my isolation when I got my positive PCR test back on Day 5!

It sounds nuts but I did read that in an article this morning (Sky News I think); maybe they got it wrong then.
 
The site supposed to send test results and communicate daily cases here is down. Best way to keep us from hitting a new record!

Except I’m travelling to Switzerland tomorrow and I still have no test result to show! *gets sent back*

Which I reckon will be about 60% of people. I'm not convinced I would bother.

I'm fairly sure it's all about managing demand in overwhelmed labs, but equally, the government is absolutely thinking about massaging those numbers down.
