Or Dannii Minogue vs. Flower Power for the correct and tedious credit

So, a decade later what do we think of this empowering slice of disco drama?

Officially the best Minogue single of the century*

* Except Slow obviously.. I always forget that

Still fucking AMAZING. Sounds like it could still be a hit today too.

That era seems an AGE AGO. Such a treat when ANY DANCE SINGLE CHARTED.

I'm really surprised it wasn't bigger.. that seemed like it would be her #1. She looked amazing then too, love the video.

I always thought it was SOMEWHAT LESS THAN THE SUM OF ITS PARTS

Wasn't FLOWER POWER around for AGES and then LA FANNII's VOX were BOLTED ON like an ILL-FITTING TOUPÉE?

I only discovered the other day (thanks to Doodvid) that it was intially kicked around by none other than SMAMFA FOX :basil:

Beautiful vocals as ever.

I was SO upset when she signed to AATW. I knew it was the beginning of the end. :(

Fair enough that it may well have been her best/only offer, but they are such an awful label for artist development.

Well, she kicked herself in the horse teeth by turning down Lola's Theme. I always assumed this was the compromise. Dannii's Theme would have been the best song title ever.

Songs like Michael Gray's The Weekend had Dannii smeared all over it - if only she had the clout to get them. I could totally see the sound she was going for (Do You Believe Me Now is just to die for), but you're right - AATW were focused on the then and there, not developing their acts, which worked for them, but Dannii's stock plummeted in the space of 4 singles if even.

It remains a truly ASTONISHING highlight in the Minogue canon. I also remember thinking it would be number one with a bullet. POOR DANNII :(

It was the massive gaps between releases that used to boil my piss with AATW.

Poor Agnes was another victim. :(

The only thing more botched up than On & On's release was Dannii's own nose-job (although it says a lot that it was still an improvement).

I was dancing to this in the office last week. It's actually very easy to do the routine when sat in a standard office chair with no arms.

Quite CLEARLY one of the very greatest songs OF ALL TIME.

The opening gambit ("our first and last summer together...") is quite phenomenal. As for the video, well, :disco: can't even begin to do it justice.

12/10.

Everyone thought this was going to #1 the week before release

Truly SUBLIME. I HATE AATW. It was a MIRACLE Club Disco even got released!

Our Dan hasn't had much luck at all, has she? Apart from something like 20 consecituve number 1s on the Club Chart.

It's astonishing just how much :disco: is crammed onto the Neon Nights Deluxe Edition. You almost need to take it in over at least three sittings.

It's very good but I find it generally overrated around here/amongst the gays. I probably prefer "So Under Pressure" among the final set of singles.

Not to say it again and, again and, AGAIN (see what I did there?), but she had the material, and some of it she's still kept under wraps. An incomplete Freemasons collaboration and a dodgy Ruth Lorenzo favour aside (which I hope was just to pad out her reality fashion show), there has been little to suggest she actually will come back with something. There were whispers she had signed with Ministry of Sound, but even that was a few years back now.

COME ON BABY GET WHILE IT'S
HOT!
WE NEED A LOVE FIIIIGHT

Talk about a knock-out :disco:

Oh that is just TOO good. :D This is why I love here. Poor Spam.. always wrong place, wrong time. Although why she bothered even covering the majestic Tatjana's INDELIBLE "Santa Maria" is beyond me.

She should have went for something that would suit her more, a classier one like this, from the Dutch Sabrina

This was one of the two times I was convinced Dannii was going to have a number one single (the other was Put The Needle On It). But at least it was a solid addition to her top 10 catalogue . She ended up with more top 10s than looked likely for her at one time. Still sounds joyous and uplifting.

I still can't work out why everyone thought it was so great.

:disco: video aside, obvs

I thought it would #1 for a MONTH

They'd been playing the Flower Power instrumental in the CLUBZ for months beforehand, and it was amazing even then, so when they released it with a Dannii vocal it was like it was HEAVEN SENT.

To be fair every song that charted above it that first week was an unforgettable classic

1.(NE) Wonderful - JA Rule feat. R. Kelly & Ashanti
2.(1) Call On me - Eric Prydz
3.(NE) Nothing Hurts Like Love - Daniel Bedingfield
4.(NE) Stolen - Jay Sean
5.(4) My Neck, My Back (Lick It) - Khia
6.(3) Millionaire - Kelis feat. Andre 3000
7.(NE) You Won't Forget About Me - Dannii Minogue vs Flower Power
8.(5) I Believe My Heart - Duncan James & Keedie
9.(NE) What Became of the Likely Lads? - Libertines
10.(6) Happy People/U Saved Me - R. Kelly

I love the video so much. Especially the moment where she spills the drink and they all do some spontaneous synchronised choreo before actually cleaning up.

Okay fair enough on the top 4 but Khia and Millionaire shine JUST AS BRIGHT as Dannii's club classic
