PART 3: Popstars without borders

10] Galantis ft Charli XCX - Born to Play

This section is devoted to the reach of Asian artists outside their shores, and vice versa, with some unexpected cross pollination. First up is this promotional collab between Australian outfit Galantis and British Charli XCX to promote Osaka's Universal Studios Japan and their new Nintendo World. You've probably seen this but it is a bit of fun, isn't it?
 
11] BTS - Dynamite

I can hardly mention popstars without borders without the biggest Asian group probably of all-time around the world. The Korean group broke the US in a pretty stunning fashion, scoring No.1s and awards, and even breaking the UK market who hates forenz usually. I almost put Butter on there, but I had to celebrate their biggest hit of all with a slick slab of funky pop something or other.
 
You could've also kept it going by including Charli/BTS collab Dream Glow :o

They were a bit shit at the start, but they did get quite good just before breakthrough. I can see how it happened at least

12] Daphne and Celeste - Haretahi (Sunny Day)

Surprise! Well, I was anyway, to hear that not only had the "Ooh Stick You" duo reformed, but they had made a Japanese-language song, and that it's quite alright. I mean we aren't exactly reinventing the wheel with this one, but I'm going for shock value. Their pronunciation is alright too.

HERE IS A TOILET BREAK IF ONE WERE NEEDED
 
Can totally imagine D&C being those girls who are really into kawaii culture and have a gothic french maid outfit :)

13] Ayumi Hamasaki vs Ferry Corsten - Connected

Another entry for the Empress of J-Pop. She might have gone off the boil a little bit in recent years (well since 2006) but this still goes off. A surprisingly unflinching slice of eurotrance from the early 00s in the capable hands of Dutch DJ Ferry Corsten. A bit of an oddity in the canon but wonderful nonetheless.
