I literally had a conversation about this song just yesterday. First time I’ve even thought about it for 20 odd years too. How weird.

I'm sane and sorted to anyone that cares to ask, but the bit where the baby on the bus stops going wah-wah-wah and transforms into a stern-looking Marge has popped into my mind every now and then for the last 20 years.
 
I also hope she sits at home and bops to the Dannii sample too. :disco: I mean, she hasn't cleared many others, HAS SHE?!

It’s a cover, not a sample. Like all those cheap versions that have come out for gay clubs over the years, you don’t need permission.
 
I have no memory of this being a single. And a successful one at that, good lord. I thought it was just a skit of some kind.

Clearly I am capable of scrubbing things from my brain that could cause some sort of trauma.

Surely a radio DJ played it to her at least once on air? Or they would have specifically been told not to, which would also mean she would have known about it that way
 
I would imagine permission would be needed as it's not a straightforward cover - it's changed quite significantly. But then it's a recreation of the track rather than a sample, and there are legal protections for parodies.

Anyway it seems the Daily Star's showbiz reporter made her aware of it:
Madonna owes me one after I told her about a spoof kids' record which fans think is her brand new single. Cheeky record bosses are releasing a song by Mad Donna, who performs a club version of the nursery rhyme The Wheels On The Bus Go Round And Round. Madge is angry about the release and has put her lawyers on the case.

The single has already had airplay on radio stations and the video on MTV - and many fans believe it's an official Madonna release. The clever track even copies the tune to Madonna's worldwide hit Ray Of Light for the backing track. And a brilliant female mimic has perfectly captured Madonna's trademark vocals.

The song comes complete with a cartoon of the pop superstar riding a school bus around the streets and relaxing at home with daughter Lourdes. But pals of Madonna say she is furious people think it's her singing on the CD. A source said: "She may sing nursery rhymes to son Rocco in the privacy of her home but I'm sure it's not something she'd release as an official single."

Last night her agents in the UK thanked me and insisted they will be taking legal action. A spokeswoman said: "The song is not by Madonna and it has no association with her record label. We didn't know anything about it until your inquiry. As a result we have referred the matter to our legal department.

Of course she's heard it, lads. Her days weren't so full that something as significant as a spoof version of her releasing a spoof single wouldn't be flagged to her.
 
I love that current day Madonna would put this in her stories, but back then was in a completely different realm to filthy mortals to even contemplate such a thing.
