What are your thoughts on Christmas?

I personally love it, although this year I have found it difficult to get in to the spirit and I can’t quite put my finger on why.
 
I usually love it. This year seems off for whatever reason

The same with me. I THINK it’s because in my head it should still be Summer as this year seems to have flown by unlike any other I can remember.
 
I very much embrace the festive spirit, usually from around mid November it kicks in and I love the music, the films, the lights, the nights out, the obligatory family get togethers, the overeating, all of it. But come Boxing Day it literally evaporates :D I won't watch any christmas films and christmas music has no effect. I'll keep the lights up until the 6th just because they're pretty, but the feeling is gone. So I plan all my fun activities before hand. I've got such a crazy week coming up!
 
I chose 'like' rather than 'love' because it hasn't yet fully kicked in for me, but that's not unusual. Mid November to mid December is the busiest time of the year for me at work, which probably is a big cause of not feeling it early in the season.
 
I fucking LOVE Christmas.

Though this year I’m struggling to get properly festive, though I am enjoying the lights and the cosiness of everything.

Just been to a carol concert at my local, though, and that’s perked me right up!
 
I'm sure I'm seeing fewer houses trimmed extravagantly this year.
 
I don’t celebrate it but I grew up associating it with lights and music and not going to school so I’d say I like it. And I enjoy going to Christmas parties

I like it, but I hate repetitive Christmas

Really looking forward to hosting again this year. We have a mates party this weekend, then I’ll do my shop and start prepping once I’ve recovered, so Tuesday.

Because we went away last year its exciting to be doing it at home this year.
 
I reckon either SE Asia next year, or skiing somewhere if things carry on going well.
 
My friend just surprised me and dropped off some Christmas cookies so I’m feeling festive
 
I like it for its religious significance, the music and decor, and for all the parties.

I hate it for the obligations that come with it. I hate traveling during the holidays - it's chaotic and expensive. I love my family but they're not the festive type - they're all cynics and snobs. And I'm absolutely fine with that (in fact, it's often better), but it makes them exhausting to be around.

My mom HATED Christmas gimmicks when we were kids. We rarely did presents or decor. I even remember posting her bullshit Christmas trees here lol
 
I'm not really in the mood for it this year, I wish it was already over to be honest.

We're spending it with my partner's dysfunctional family this year as I'm not going home to my family for the first time since my flights were cancelled during one of the COVID peaks in 2020. I'm sure I'll need a serious amount of wine to make it through Christmas dinner with them.
 
Love Xmas for the decorations and the traditions and because it's followed by New Year's Eve and then the Epiphany so in a sense it just keeps on giving and giving. Love Easter more tho, spiritually it's fantastic, the weather is better, the hymns and the traditions are top notch.
 
Easter is just not a thing here any more really, other than the supermarkets overflowing with chocolates and a lovely long weekend off.
 
I love the build-up more than I do the day itself. Everything can be improved by Christmas lights. And people are just generally so much more more sociable and in better spirits. I have however LONG been over Christmas music. I don't need a whole sixth of every year devoted to hearing the same two Wham and Mariah songs on repeat.

The day itself... meh. The mood shifts from excitement to WEARY OBLIGATION. And I don't even have bothersome children to manage.
 
I’m not feeling it so far which is kinda normal, I think it’s heightened by working from home full time and I’ve avoided Christmas socialising so far as I’m determined to avoid the flu that’s doing the rounds as I have other stuff to do that I can’t be sick for. I am going out on Saturday though which might change things in terms of festive spirit.

I do love the 24th to 26th which is when I go to my hometown and stay over at mum’s house for those days.
 
I've gone for indifference as I enjoy the day itself when it arrives, but I'd say I actively dislike the build up/preparing for it, and the pressure to buy gifts.

My mum properly hates Christmas, and I think out of the past 15 years, she's only been in the UK for two of them (2020 for obvious reasons, and 2016 because I was in hospital which was actually quite a GOOD Christmas as the food was surprisingly decent and my parents were able to spend a fair amount of time with me, chatting and doing puzzles together), the rest she's spent in Spain, and in part I think her hate of it has now rubbed off on me.

From 2016-2019 I was working in an environment that I see as similar to retail, where weekends in the run up to Christmas were manic with the crowds, and I found that so unpleasant that I was never able to feel in the spirit.
 
I like it more than I used to. I think having children to buy presents for refreshed it a bit for me, added some fun. Otherwise, I find it a bit frantic and overwhelming. I have a soft spot for Christmas Eve, for some reason. It was always more fun than Christmas Day when I was younger, there was less pressure and I enjoyed the midnight service and stuff like that. The day itself could be a bit of a faff.

Love it.

I enjoy the coziness and the festive decorations and the presents and the getting together of family and friends, mulled wne, christmas day in the pub, sprouts and turkey.

Enforced time off work (and the quiet times when I'm in work) just provide a little reset for the soul for almost everyone.
 
Love it. The most wonderful time of the year etc. It's precious with a child (sorry).

I go through too high levels of stress in the build up, the day itself and the post Christmas clean up which I need to get better at. Everything is a last minute rush every year but I always manage to pull it off :ken:

Anyway Christmas is a bit shit since my mother died because I went there EVERY YEAR since I left home but I'm still SOLDERING ON as someone once wrote in a CHRISTMAS NEWSLETTER to much hilarity
 
Yes, I love Christmas. I haven’t had a tree for the past five years, but it’s one of my favourite things.

I love getting people gifts and gift wrapping is really therapeutic and the songs and the films and the general Christmas cheer, people just seem jollier. Oh and the food. And you can drink every day because it’s Christmas.
 
I love buying gifts but hate wrapping. And because I'm good at buying throughout the year and putting them away, I always underestimate how much I've got and how big a job it is. I must do most of it this Saturday when he's off to his cousin for the day.
 
Honestly couldn't care less about it at the moment. I think having the shop has made me enjoy it less, as we work up until close on Xmas eve and then go back in boxing day so it's not an enjoyable holiday for us.

Plus, we're usually prepping to go away at New Year so that overshadowed Christmas.

Yeah I'm shit at wrapping. Ms Ron does all ours, except hers, obviously, because shes dead good at it.
 
All though I've just remembered a few years ago we got SHITFACED christmas eve, she still had some of mine to wrap. Came back into the front room SOBBING because they were a mess.

One of my presents was a trip abroad and a gig so she'd bought a postcard to write details of the gig on. It was illegible 😂

I do feel this year will be a bit of a mess for me thanks to no parents, but I’m trying to stave it off. It’ll break down at some point no doubt…

Well I like the way everything stops, the time off from work, the Christmas lights, glühwein etc. But it’s also a bit distressing in the way that my family is based in four different countries so every Christmas I travel somewhere to meet them. It’s fun to see them but also a bit exhausting to spend almost a week with them. Also, I’m at the age where I would like to start creating my own Christmas traditions at home with someone else but I’m single. My siblings have family so I’m the black sheep. So overall many mixed feelings.
