Do you look forward to Christmas Day?

Is it something you look forward to or is it something you dread? Or perhaps something in between. Or something situational.

I like Christmas Eve and love the dinner but I feel like with plus ones it's all very noisy and there's always an argument and I'm never fully relaxed so I usually don't get super excited for the day itself, even though mostly it's fun.

I do like Boxing Day.

I love being Jewish in December. All month long I can listen to the music, look at pretty lights etc. And then on Christmas Day I don't have the family drama or anything and I can just get Chinese food or do nothing

It's fine. I really look forward to the period between Boxing Day and New Year's though, after I've fulfilled all my family commitments and I have a luxurious week of having no responsibilities whatsoever.

Yeah, it's nice to see the family, and I don't have to cook, but DO get to eat :disco:

No. It’s the most boring day of the year and I have to spend it with my family. :argh: I think this year I’m just going to the gym and movies — maybe a strip club.

I'm fully aware this is the ultimate first world problem, but does anyone find the process of finding homes for your gifts stressful? Suddenly your shelves and kitchen counters aren't in the nice equilibrium they've been in all year and you need to decide what needs chucking. I'm definitely more and more dad-like as the years go on in not really wanting any gifts because "if i want something I buy it myself" :gross:

Same. I just can’t find room for all my fine china and luxury items :(

Christmas is excellent. I like spending time with my family (or Mrs. I's), I like being off work, I like getting presents, I like turkey and I like drinking all day.

There really is nothing to hate.

I’ve given up on gifts. I don’t really care if I get them and I only really give to my close friends’ children. Any gifts to family are in the form of eating out together or theatre trips to my mum.

Christmas Day for the last few years has just been me going to see my mum and us spending a few relaxing days getting drunk together, playing cards and watching films, so it’s always quite nice now with no pressure.

This is definitely me.

Mostly because I'm in a fortunate enough position that most things I want I WILL buy myself, so a lot of the other things are just stuff or clutter because I've already decided I don't want it.

My mother has a really annoying habit of asking what I want only to decide she's not going to buy me that. I mean what could I possibly want another BOOK for, when I could have a shirt which probably won't fit and I almost certainly wouldn't have chosen even if it does?

And Mr L has an awful habit of asking me to JUSTIFY anything I do want. Why do I need new wireless headphones, when yes my current ones look knackered but they still work, don't they?

WELL DON'T FUCKING ASK ME WHAT I WANT OR WONDER WHY I BUY THINGS MYSELF INSTEAD THEN

I do love Christmas Day though, largely because I start drinking sherry at about 9am. Christmas dinner does stress me a bit in the planning of it, but with any prep done on Christmas Eve, the actual cooking of it now it's only the two of us (family will be in the evening or Boxing Day) is easy enough.

The first time i was in charge of making Christmas Dinner was the first time I ever properly felt like an adult.

I am exactly like this!! I hate getting random things I don't need, calenders of cats, 23 different mugs, a gin glass.

I've told people either to not get me anything as I don't need anything, or give me money to book a holiday.

Christmas day has always been pretty easy for me. Mainly because I always get Invited to friends houses or my mum's so I dont have to do anything :D

This year Mandy and I plus my brother and his wife are going to my mum's. We're all taking a dish this time. I'm doing gammon.

Drinks in the afternoon at my mum's then off to my friends for more food and drink.

Christmas Day is fun enough but it’s all about Christmas Eve for me, which is just a joyous ball of anticipation and smiley warmth and loveliness.

Christmas Day this year will be getting up, going for a sea swim, breakfast and then going to get my Mum, taking her to the pub and a walk along the seafront (weather permitting), then back home and cooking her and Mr Sheena dinner. She’ll be knackered by 7pm so we’re departing and will probably stop in at a friend’s on the way home or maybe just go home and collapse.

I remember once my mum was horrified when I asked for my present to be my dad going to the garage for me and getting some new tyres on my car. I'd have loved someone to do that for me so I wouldn't have to pretend to know what I'm talking about in that environment.

She told me no and probably bought me a load of tat instead. :disco:

Where is the POLL?

I’m another fan of Christmas Eve. We usually watch Christmas editions of old uk sitcoms (hi de hi and The Good Life mostly!)

I never look forward to Christmas Day because I usually spend most of it in the kitchen preparing a meal that, by the time I sit down to eat, I don't want.

To me, that is the perfect, sensible gift!

Christmas Eve is the best day of the year, closely followed by “Good” Thursday, the Thursday before Easter, as you can go out and get twatted with a glorious four days ahead of you.

God I miss long bank holidays and not having to work them

It's Christmas Eve for me, which is triple dipped in Anglo-Polish tradition.

Christmas Day is fine, but it's game over by the time dinner is over. TV is normally shit and none of my family really drink. Mr Ag is joining my family for the first time this year, so that's overdue.

It's fitting that it's a Sunday this year as Christmas Day always feels very Sunday-ish to me. I don't know if that's because we always got taken to church in the morning (and later, went to watchnight services) and had my gran, grandpa and aunt round most years, things that were Sunday things when I was growing up. Nowadays it has the same nothingy feeling that a lot of Sundays have, especially in winter when it's dark, cold and everything is shut.

The run up is usually a bit more fun and it's looking that way this year.

Since we came back I’ve done Christmas dinner for our parents which I love, I enjoy cooking for people, I love that I get to dedicate a whole day to it (and more) and I love that I get to drink negronis and get stoned while doing it.

Love it. Over the years I have watched/been involved in many a fight or argument at a big family Christmas but it is generally the only time of year that all if not the majority of my family get together other than a wedding/funeral/big birthday when they occur. I think I have always associated it with a big family get together as it has always been that way since I was born so it is definitely my favourite day of the year.

On the whole yes. I think my favourite part is the journey to my hometown on the 24th and the Xmas Eve snacks and drinks.

I for one would LOVE to be at a Rita Christmas

It's ok. I used to love it until about 5-10 years ago. Now it is just another reminder of everyone else being paired up and married and having kids and big presents for each other, while I am on my own. :D But it is a break from work and it's nice to see my family for SOME TIME. But I clamber home as quickly as possible...!

My very best Christmas ever was 2020 - just with me and one of my best friends, playing board games, cooking terribly together. I loved it. I wish I could just do that every year.

You could always get a dog

WHY are my family watching ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL. And WHY have they realised it’s a repeat from last year AND STILL KEPT IT ON???
