This is turning into the most consistently strong season since maybe… season 9?

A shame no one is really watching it… 😂

Which is just so sad because it really has been a great series so far.

Same thing happened in 1989 when Mccoy’s 3rd season was easily the best season of the 1980s (and my personal favourite season of Old Who) and then it got cancelled.. 😢
 
I’m on me holidays so watched this week’s ep on Disney Plus. MOST convenient. Gone are the days when I had to wait two fucking weeks to watch Doomsday and find out if Rose Tyler died, due to a poorly-timed family holiday abroad.

This week’s I loved until the Conrad reveal, after which I didn’t really buy it because his plan made no fucking sense? Oh you want to prove that UNIT are lying about aliens and you’re going to do that by having them respond to a seemingly-genuine alien attack in a way they absolutely wouldn’t if they were making it up? Okeydoke. It felt rushed too so I wonder if there was a stronger two-parter here.
 
Last couple were really good IMO especially this one. Edge of seat and also very relevant and very accurate portrayal of the kind of nasty destructive conspiracy theory loons the world is riddled with these days. Also good to finally see this Doctor being angry.
 
This week's was lovely and thoughtful and felt genuinely different for Who, and I could NOT have been less engaged. It forgot to be fun.

Not sure how I felt about the Jo Martin cameo. On one hand it's lovely to see her again, but on the other it felt like another example of this show failing to use her properly. We've never even had a proper multi-doctor adventure with her!

Well excited for the Interstellar Song Contest :disco:

I guess it's just an episode that you feel rather than try to make sense of.
 
Nah that episode didn’t do anything for me - my least favourite of the season. I’m not sure I even really understood it..!

The cameo was weird because he literally mentioned earlier in the episode that it was the first time he’d had black skin, then promptly featured her in the same episode - I guess he must have meant THIS SPECIFIC black skin. But yeah I wish they’d just give Jo Martin a proper episode to get her teeth into - she was SO good in Fugitive of the Judoon.
 
Well worst one so far for me just dull.
I was confused why the woman who was a tour guide at Gloucester Cathedral had reappeared but then had to have it explained to me she was actually a Doctor. Completely forgot :D

It was just a weird story. Much like the problem of the Chibnall era wasn't that it was a bit too woman, it's that it's was a bit too shit. Except this wasn't shit, it was just weird and hard to follow but, good if you felt it rather than trying to understand it
 
That was so ridiculous and so much fun. If this show's dying again, it's going out with such a deranged camp fanwank flourish and I am HERE FOR IT

SUSAN?!?! THE RANI?!?! Aghast that after 20 years of both near constantly being rumoured to make a return, both actually have done so IN THE SAME EPISODE :D :o

Cora's song at the end would have made a better entry for the UK at Eurovision than anything that Remember Monday are bringing to the party.

Very weird episode - I mean the main story was over about 15 minutes before the end... but that ending! Fabulous - will be very interested to see if Archie Panjabi can bring the levels of campness that we're all going to be crying out for. 'The definitely article so to speak'... is that a Tom Baker throwback reference?
 
I love that Susan and the fucking Rani came back, but all Who fans are obsessed with is Dugga Doo :disco::D
 
Enjoyed that! It was WandaVision with added mumbo jumbo (not sure about the Snow White-esque opening) and I expect it to collapse under the weight of itself next week, but it was fun and looked great. I know little about old Who, but OMG at Omega

Both Ranis are marvellous.

I really like Belinda, but I'm starting to think it was a mistake to bring her in and sideline Ruby. With so few episodes I feel like I've barely got to know Belinda, and at the same time Ruby has been cut short from becoming an all-time legendary companion. I feel like Ncuti's doctor has plateaued this series too - I'm not enjoying him as much as last year, and I barely feel like we've got to know him too. And if rumours are to be believed he's fucking off next week, even if the show manages to return?. Still prefer him to Capaldi or Whittaker though.
 
Also it's a little weird watching this mere weeks after binging though The Good Wife. Why is Kalinda in Doctor Who please?
 
I like Archie generally as an actress but I think she could do with camping it up a little bit more - a la Kate O’Mara.

I guessed that Mel would be back - mostly because there’ll be a nice character moment of her having met the Rani before (I assume in the finale). But obviously the whole UNIT squad are back (as usual, it’s a little predictable tbh).

TBH if the finale doesn’t involve the Rani dressing up as Mel, then RTD has missed a trick. 😂

That said, even though smaller, the ratings still seem PERFECTLY FINE for 2025? Though I guess it's substantially more expensive than most other dramas. And fuck all compared to things like Death in Paradise or Protection on our @lolly 's chart

I guess you could say the ratings are OKAY - but the show is very much now an also ran rather than a high achiever.

Again though, I'd like to see some 28 day stats (never mind global ones), although I can't help thinking if it was doing exceptionally well on iPlayer, the BBC would be heralding it, in the face of all the 'rating disaster' stories out there.
 
I read the same leak and thought the same! But tbh, I'm not anti it based on those two seconds. I mean, it's stupid, but setting aside the fact she's been in it before she's a good actress

Re: the rest of the episode - truly HORRIFIC! I was expecting a mess but not on that level.You know an episode’s appalling when the 13th Doctor popping up is the highlight

Should have cast Russel Tovey as the doctor rather than hanging him out to dry on some bullshit spinoff that will be cancelled after one series.
 
OK so Doctor Who twitter has clocked that Billie is NOT credited as The Doctor in the end credits, as is the usual custom.

So it's being speculated that it's related to the heart of the TARDIS, as she was the last person to swallow that or whatever. That makes sense.

I wonder if the thinking being that this would allow Ncuti not to have to regenerate into no one, but also mean that they didn't have to find a whole new Doctor only for the show to be axed when/if Disney pull out. As this could be wrapped up with a special to end it / short story on RTD's instagram page.
 
Oh my GOD.

I'm not totally against it and there is precedent (12 got his face from someone he'd met, so they absolutely can choose a face, even if subconsciously, or return to an old one of course) yet at the same time I also wonder if it's a bit of a shark jumping moment.

Noticed the credits as well so that's kind of hopeful. I'd rather have someone completely new.

The theory of not having an actual new Doctor yet because of the uncertainty also makes sense.

Did he? If there are rushed rewrites aren’t they more than likely because of him?

And yes. Absolutely felt like a Jump The Shark moment to me (though she’s clearly not going to be ‘the’ Doctor proper thankfully - surely???) I think we all kinda gave Tennant a free pass for a return… but RTD really needs to move on from 2006 and look forward.

In other news…
What was the actual point in the Rani bigenerating if they were just going to kill the new one off straight away (in such a shit way too). The stakes felt non-existent - I couldn’t have given less of a shit about Poppy because we didn’t even think she was real for most of the episode - by the time you realised she IS real there is no threat any more. Belinda started off so promising but this storyline is just a complete damp squib for me and tbh it didn’t feel the story warranted bringing back the whole UNIT team.

I thought this was weaker than the previous season finale. Really unimpressed.
