It's really just FF I can't see her doing fully live. I think she should get more vocal coaching and try that kind of style again for her next album.

whether a tour is logical or not? :D she's about to headline Glastonbury. at the very least she can easily sell out a UK/EU arena tour. calling fake tea!

I did find it interesting that only one gig was booked for 5000 in London.
 
It all sounds like a Dua Lipa album lol, so why a change of sound?!! All that's missing is one huge runaway hit. The singles so far have done well enough and so far the album, too. It's not been a flop. So yeah, sounds like bs.

This is a bit of a joke to be fair. When WRITING and PRODUCING the album did her team not think “hmmm is this going to land? It’s starting to feel a bit redundant and uninspired now”

The fact is she lacks star quality. At this point she’s giving Rachel Stevens in the 2020s. You can’t force someone to be a star if they don’t have it. The material needs to deliver, as does the marketing and promotion. This entire era has been flat. I listened to the album and I absolutely didn’t think it was bad. Just… flat.
 
The physical sales buckled in week 2 but her streaming remained buoyant enough to keep her at #3 so it's certainly not over yet but the next couple of weeks may tell a different story. We'll get a deluxe with 5 more songs, 2 of which will be 'singles' (whatever that means these days)
 
Maybe she can fold her love of astrology into the management-requested change of sound

I say a cover of Des'ree's "What's Your Sign?" in the style of Primal Scream.
 
I don't think she has anything to worry about. Nothing from this album has stuck in the same way as the singles from Future Nostalgia but she did have a pretty massive hit with that song from the Barbie soundtrack just last year (which I suspect stole some comeback thunder from the album's singles).

And if it does all go tits up for her music career, Rita Ora has shown there's a lucrative career path for former popstars as somebody who just turns up to things.
 
There is absolutely a Paltrowesque wellness-guru possible future for her. It's such a tiny, someone-sneezed-9-feet-away-from-a-butterfly distance from our current reality that I really want her music career to continue with sufficient success to prevent this.
 
Oh it’s certainly a come down from the last project, but it’s hardly a disaster. Surely she’s still very much a bankable star and can easily rack up mid level hits with no thought about it?
 
Yes, it’s far from over. Even I wouldn’t go that far. She’s pretty, highly marketable, and sings fine.

Maybe a change in sound is all that will be needed.
 
After the runaway success of Future Nostalgia, I would say the current trajectory of her success is pretty normal and nothing to worry about.

Rita Ora never had an imperial era so that comparison is moot (albeit hilarious).

She hasn't excited me in quite the same way this time around but I'm not a stan so it doesn't really matter.
 
The trajectory is giving me Katy Perry and that's fine. High-promise debut era. Globe-straddling every-songs-a-smash sophomore. More of the same third. I'm here for Dua's Chained to the Rhythm and Bon Appétit bébé.

If we're going to start comparing Rita and Dua career peaks, I can't decide which of these is the winner.

I think Dua probably needs the music career to smash more than Rita tbh. Rita is that little bit more extroverted, and has that small hint of shamelessness; all necessary to break into TV or just be a professional celebrity. Can you imagine Dua shouting "Jacob Zuma, disgraced former South African leader, are you the bidet?!!" with the same level of exuberance?

True, but one assumes Dua has higher aspirations than competing with MOLLY MAE

The key thing is that she had managed to do what Katy Perry never did, and that’s win the industry nerds over. Future Nostalgia was actually critically acclaimed, which is that rare feat of being universally adored by the press and the fans at the same time, without compromising anything.

I don’t think her star is falling and she’s still very bankable. It’s just a bit of a shame that she hasn’t managed to maintain that stance over to this album. It’s full of bops, it’s a hit, she’s done well. But it’s just not very interesting!
