Both “New Rules” and “IDGAF” were massive slow burners for me. Even “Don’t Start Now” took time. They’re all solid 10/10 now.

New Rules obviously wasn't QUITE as big of a hit, but it's definitely iconic. One of the most memorable videos of the decade and a straight up superb pop song.

It took me ages to actually hear New Rules because it's only Moopy that keeps me in the pop loop and I had probably dismissed her based on some of the earlier tunes. My first positive contact with the song was actually the version of the video where the music has been removed and sound effects overdubbed...



It really made me laugh but also made me think "this is a good song, like".

One of the best examples of a music video MAKING a song. I like the song but the video took it to a whole new level, as well as elevating her from one of the many girls in pop scoring middling hits to being one of the big hitters!

The 1-2-3 punch of this, IDGAF and One Kiss, in the UK at least, did wonders for her.
