It's been pointed out before, but I think it's worth noting the opening line of the song is as follows:

The very first time that I saw your brown eyes

HOWEVER, due to Gabrielle's penchant for an eyepatch (or large flap of hair in this particular video), he would've only seen the one of them.

She only wears it to get the disability allowance. And there's actually two eyes under the patch.

And shortening it to the singular and referring to her BROWN EYE would have given the line a very different meaning!

Oh lovely. Gabs and BH sound great on this. I remember seeing the video on Live & Kicking. I think the verses are deluxe and better than the decently swanky chorus. For some reason, some songs aren't rendered in time-coated classic status, but this is a 90s radio staple. Both acts, but E17 especially, have a better run of hits than what their current profile suggests.

Oh I haven’t heard this for decades but I used to like it a lot.

I’ve always loved this and it came out at a time E17 seemed ready to explode but instead imploded soon after (not least by that potato running Brian Harvey over)

E17 were on their way out at this point no? This came out around the time of his drug revelation.

It was between the release of this and the following single, Hey Child, that Brian Harvey was sacked from the band.

Gabs took the patch off, it was a baby potato in there all along, it fell out, Brian fell out the car, and the rest is history.

Oh... in the context of everything of Gabrielle it's like a 3. But in the context of all songs ever it's like a 7.

Of course if this had been Give Me A Little More Time or Forget About The World it would have been a 110.
