That was a bit shit for an hour long New Year episode.

The repeat of Boxing Day but with Mel, Ray and Hunter was just silly. What was Mel’s big elaborate plan anyway? To just have the other wives call the police and Ray to be arrested and humiliated in front of a bunch of people he doesn’t care about?
 
Mel stumbling around the woods, wielding a gun with her purse hanging around her wrist :D
 
What a fantastic episode. I literally jumped out of my skin when Ray jumped up from his shallow grave. They have done pretty well with Mel since her comeback.
 
SERIOUSLY? She knocked him over (didn't his his head) and then was able to BURY HIM without him waking up?

And what the fuck was Hunter doing the whole time? Did he just LEAVE HER TO IT?
 
Of course it was going to be far fetched, but it still kept me on the edge of my seat.
 
Although, that may be more down to the overindulgence of the festivities.
 
Hunter aka CHAZ was busy making BAGS and writing BARS. I take it he's leaving if this is his attempt at a music career.
 
I'm absolutely NOT HERE for child urchin drug dealers, or the Evie storyline at all really. The recent episodes where that plot focused solely on Tiff and Bernie have been far better, and actually quite delicately handled I'd say.
 
Sean Slater (still :horny:) BACK for a “brief return”.

Kate Oates has made some good calls so far.

I know they’d never do it, but I hope when Phil finds out, he doesn’t discriminate because Evie is a young girl and truly screws her up.
 
Evie is absolutely WRETCHED. When she pushed that junkie guy down that flight of stairs I was secretly hoping he had a knife when she went down and stood over him. UGH.
 
Eastenders has been fucking SHIT for ages. Having Alfie back, one of the worst characters ever in a soap of all time, just adds to that shiteness.
 
I'm finding the Dr Legg stuff very disturbing - though very well acted by Leonard Fenton, even without him having very many lines.
 
What’s all this about Hayley stepping out in front of the van? That’s not how it was filmed. It was clearly a reckless driver speeding around the corner and she froze as she was crossing.

Meanwhile a bunch of kids are playing football in the road around the corner. Surely Mick and Keegan’s Dad would need to be DBS checked. I’m certain either of them would pass.
 
It was a bit confusing, wasn't it! I think he either painted it, or paid those kids to do it.

His final scenes were beautifully played, but I really didn't like the montage of other characters towards the end. Were they seriously trying to imply Masood and Kathy are a love story of equal stature to Dr Legg and his wife? It would have worked better over the archive footage instead, I think.

Apart from that, great episode! I gay gasped at this bit, what a queen Karen's turned out to be :D
 
Tonight is the first episode credited to Kate Oates, though the turnaround is clearly already underway. Do we think the stuff with Lofty and the cheque is hinting at a return for Vicki, and possibly Michelle again? I still think Jenna Russell got a bit of a bad rap for a situation that wasn't really her fault, so I'd be happy to see her back.
 
I’m not sure they’ll revisit Michelle - at the moment Kate Oates seems to be going for fan favourites. But Vicki seems like an obvious candidate to get back at some point.

Maybe when Sharon needs some family after the affair is exposed...
 
Michelle really did not need to be revisited. She was very much of her time. Also please NO to American Vicky who also didn’t work last time.

He is a lot prettier than the old one. Maybe he can upgrade to Martin?
 
I think Lola is also coming back so I don’t know if they are getting back together?
 
Surely EastEnders needs a gay couple to drive the DigitalSpy gays crazy and rival Robron
