What is it with Sharon and the Queen Vic head? I'm sure I know but I can't think (also haven't watched regularly for years)
 
I enjoyed this! It was nice having it back and they’ve clearly put in so much more effort to get around the social distancing restrictions than other soaps. And while it was semi-distracting trying to spot what tricks had been used where, at least that was more fun than despairing at the clunkiness of the distancing on Corrie.

A fair bit of expository dialogue which was to be expected, but the plots all got into gear pretty quickly and it was inspired to launch us straight into that cliffhanger!

I presume in this case it’s just because she knew it had been on the boat that night.
 
It will be interesting to see how this does in the ratings now. They have had a fantastic opportunity for a rethink, so I am curious to see how it plays out.

Just found this

EastEnders was watched by just 3.35million people after its three-month break, while Emmerdale attracted 4.51million and Coronation Street 5.31million.

EastEnders traditionally does better on catch up than both (I imagine partly due to BBC doing better than ITV in that respect generally, and partly because EastEnders probably has a younger demographic), but not enough to make up that deficit. And you'd imagine the figure will drop after the 'comeback' episode.

I guess alongside the possibility of people anticipating the comeback and being eager to see what had happened, there was another possibility of people who just decided after a break that they haven't missed it and have given up on it.
 
I wonder if the transparent announcement of the conclusion of Chantelle/Gray storyline was a bit of desperation for viewers. They’d normally not be so open about something like that.

With a storyline like that, rather like suicide, they have to announce it up front due to the nature of the storyline. It could potentially be damaging to someone going through that situation if they saw it without any warning. Though there is the risk that they may bot have read about it, but at least they have covered their tracks.
 
I forgot all about this! I went off Eastenders when they had Kathy quite literally PHONING IT IN.
 
Kathy just gets YOUNGER AND YOUNGER! Quarantine seems to have FILLED out Kat's cheeks somewhat also :eyes:

Anyway, sad for EastEnders if the ratings aren't great. It's such a fun bit of trash escapism, not to mention they just spent 40 MILLION (or whatever) building a brand new set for a show with declining viewing figures :geek:

I wonder how many weeks it will be until useless TINA makes an appearance for half a second :D

Does Chantelle get killed this week? Watching him make her hold her breath underwater last night was bad enough. I’m not sure I can watch when he kills her.
 
That's the overnights, so I imagine it will be more like 4m when the 7 day total is announced. But yes, still poor.

I don’t think they will axe it for a good while, but I can well imagine budgets will be slashed.
 
What is Vinny doing? I am confused. Is he stealing Ruby’s money? Why did Martin chase him? Surely walking around with a hood and a face mask is common place now?
 
I just watched snippets of the most recent episode and I find it hard to believe that Chantelle is meant to be a member of the Taylor family when she clearly talks and acts nothing like the rest of them. I suppose it’s not as bad as Hollyoaks when five members of the same family all have different accents!
 
When she first came into the show, it was mentioned that she and Gray met at school and got married quite young, then moved away to live their middle class life (and also for Gray to isolate her I guess :(). I think there was also some stuff about Karen having not seen them for years, so maybe Chantelle was ashamed of where she came from when she was younger?
 
I really enjoyed the first two episodes this week but I thought tonight's was pretty weak. I don't think I enjoyed any of the scenes and the acting was generally poor. I will persevere
 
Ah maybe so. Just seems a bit far fetched. But then this IS EastEnders.

Also, Ben and Callum are not exactly believable as a couple. And we’re meant to believe that Callum is now a policeman, and the police were fine about him being in a relationship with a convicted killer not to mention his boyfriend’s father being one of the most notorious criminals in the East End of London? It’s not against the rules but surely they’d have mega concerns about it. Though I suspect this storyline is only so that Callum can be used as a pawn to get the police to turn the other cheek to dubious activities.
