Ed Sheeran - Azizam

I've completely lost track of his albums and whether they are 'proper' studio albums, some sort of project, or that collaboration thing he did.

I guess he's just an ordinary big star now, rather than an era defining global behemoth.

I think maybe that Autumn Variations less poppy one did worse maybe?!

However, this is flopping big time. I think he has 1 song in the Spotify top 100 in the UK less than 7 days after release. He was THE streaming artist for many years, it's not like he is Madonna, Kylie or an artist that has always struggled on streaming.

Good riddance and FLUSH!!
 
I would love to flush but I still don't think we are fully safe.

As much as they're not the monsters they once would have been, Azizam and Sapphire both still racked up 25 weeks in the top 20 between them. For superfluous 2025 comparisons - Azizam has already outsold Abracadabra, and I don't think any of us are claiming Gaga is done.

In short there is still more EVIL TO VANQUISH
 
His decline in the UK seems the softest with this album. But he was comparatively more of a chart force there I guess.
 
We haven't even finished fixing the plumbing after Maroon 5's steamy chart BLOCKAGE. This one's gonna have to wait.
 
He’s #1 nearly fifteen years after his first album with nearly 60k in three days. This ain’t no flop, even if he’s not in his imperial era (which of course most people aren’t this far after their peak).

I don’t even like him but fuck me.
 
I guess it's not a flop in real terms, but it's certainly a notable fall from grace. When you compare him to T. Swift for example, who was doing similar numbers in the mid-10s
 
The week 2 figures will be TELLING! Most of those 60K are fan based sales, and whilst shifting that number could be considered impressive, for (possibly) the biggest streaming artist of the past 15 years to barely have 4K of those sales from streaming is a disaster. I reckon Gaga will beat him in terms of first week streams from Mayhem in the UK. Who would have predicted that?!?
 
Even T-Swift isn't a totally fair comparison. She hadn't been doing insane numbers consistently throughtout the last decade. Neither Folklore or Evermore cleared more than 40k in their release weeks here, and Sheeran's already done more than that in 3 days.

I think we need a few more shart bombs before we can talk about "fall from graces".

Clearly there's a sigificant step down in terms of his ability to dominate the streaming charts. It'll be interesting to see how the album sales stack up to his most recent commercial release.

Realistically though, he had ten years from + to =, wherein he was absolutely the dominant force in chart music. Disregarding Take That, that's a roughly equivalent stretch that took Robbie Williams from Life Thru a Lens to Rudebox. It's the kind of career that means even if he never recaptures the zeitgeist again, he's pretty much guaranteed to be a major draw for the rest of his (and our) lives.
 
This is the man who 10 years ago was such a force, he literally forced the Official Charts to rewrite their rules because his whole album was sharting in the top 20. (And started the decline of the official charts as a whole if you ask me, but that's a different conversation). He seems to have gone from that to an album that goes #1 week one by default before being quickly forgotten.

To give another, more straight orientated comparison, do we reckon he'd fill out Wembley the same way Coldplay have recently? I'm honestly not sure.
 
I don't know about selling out Wembley. But I do think he'd have replicated Coldplay by voicing empty platitudes and dedications to Charlie Kirk.
 
The Pitchfork review claims the Azizam and Sapphire singles are indeed among the HIGHLIGHTS, which speaks loud volumes
