Ed Sheeran is terrible

I was really hoping he'd lose and be tainted as a song thief. I hope some damage has been done.
 
He's already a song thief. He just didn't steal this specific one.
 
His statement is dreadful, so self-indulgent and 'poor me'. Also, the laddie doth protest too much. My statement would have been "Cheers to the beak for sussing out this wanker as a complete Walter Mitty type - like anyone's heard any of your fucking songs, ya twat. I'm off for a few stadium gigs and a wank. xx"
 
During the proceedings, the superstar frequently burst into song and hummed musical scales and melodies from Blackstreet’s No Diggity and Nina Simone’s classic Feeling Good to demonstrate how common the melody Shape of You uses is.

He said it uses “a basic minor pentatonic pattern” which is “entirely commonplace”.

The singer has already given the writers behind TLC’s 90s hit No Scrubs a credit on Shape of You after comparisons were made between the two songs.

Jesus, the indignity of linking No Scrubs with one of the worst songs of all time.
 
I have a fantasy that he makes an absolute howler of an album that finishes him off - i.e. Chris Gaines levels or something that would make 'Rudebox' look like 'Dark Side Of The Moon'. Like a hip-hop album or he goes country. Or he tries to go all experimental and it's a catastrophe. But I think he's wise enough to hive these things off, unfortunately.

But yes, the moment he decides not to nakedly appeal to the prevailing trends (he’s a trend chaser, not a setter after all) then he may become undone. There’s no way he would have made that last album if ‘After Hours’ didn’t exist. Let’s hope he goes completely off the boil and puts out an ‘Endlessly’ (or an ‘Elbow Beach’ :D)

I think it is the faux self-effacement which gets me. He’s clearly got quite the ego.
 
My flatmate is an Ed Sheeran STAN :( He's such a lovely guy, I don't quite understand how he's been pulled into this sort of thing.
 
In form the other day was trying to get a work experience to sing. The form tutor asked "Do you like Ed Sheeran?"

Me: No
Work experience: No
The kids: No

The kids actually booed. There's still hope.

I think he has a couple of songs I can stomach.

Most are total shit. Shape of You is sub shit. It's shit eating.
 
He's more or less a reductive pop artist at this point and it's fine so long as what he's aping is fine (Shape of You redoing Cheap Thrills, the last few singles redoing The Weeknd). He does, fair play, seem to largely give credit where it's due, and the guy suing him was seriously blatantly chancing his arm.

All in all I'm not quite sure what I think of where the industry is at in terms of credits now post the Marvin Gaye estate Blurred Lines case. A part of me thinks it's ridiculous Good 4 U put Paramore on the songwriting credits, but another part of me thinks...I guess it's nice to pay it back if something was obviously an inspiration even if you aren't even directly using anything from it?

Joe Public just cannot be trusted to get things right…
 
I've never heard 'Rudebox' other than a couple of the singles, I just know it absolutely tanked at the box office.
