I love hearing about people's relationships to their faves like this.

I remember I semi hated Ellie during the Lights era, except Starry Eyed. I didn't start to stan until Burn. and then I repented all my sins and devoted my life to her.

Same. I still love her, but it doesn't quite excite me the same way. My first listen to Brightest Blue was when I was driving an hour to get a covid test, since it was the nearest one available :square: Slightly different times
 
My Blood is sooo gorge. She sounds like an actual angel. The vocal delivery and layering across this album really is something else.

Interestingly, Starry Eyes never really did it for me, so I didn't get into her until I heard some other songs

I was disappointed when I first heard this... I don't really remember why except thinking it didn't have much of a chorus. I could not have been more WRONG. Seeing it live really turned it around for me, and now its a favorite.

"and I don't think I need YOU"

It just builds and build and the end is so triumphant sounding
 
I have a really deep love for Anything Could Happen. It's definitely in my top 5 songs of all time. That staccato piano jamming away under the verses and the middle 8, the gradual build and the EXPLOSION of JOY that is the chorus.

I've been listening to this on Mac speakers but I think I'll switch to earphones because it really deserves to be DEVOURED by the senses.

Only You should be annoying bu that riff that recurs throughout does get under your skin. I definitely u-turned hard on this one at some point. It really bounces along on a nice energetic GROOVE. obsessed with any and all Ellisandre vocal manipulations. Chipmunk Ellie come through on the BVs!

Another one that starts more minimal and grows as the song progresses. She does that a lot and it usually work

the first half of this album is basically electronica and big (but melancholy) beats and then it makes quite a sudden swerve into intimate/downtempo territory, so I suppose Halcyon is a TASTE of what's to come after Figure 8. it's really a very sad song.

bit OTT but what are your faves from her debut? I still love these to this day: This love will be your downfall, Biggest mistake, Guns & Horses and Wished I stayed

Guns and Horses, This Love, The Writer, and Lights are probably my big 4 but I honestly like everything on it
