the audacity of making a song called Joy but it's lyrically the saddest shit you ever heard and yet sonically it's so TRIUMPHANT once it hits the 2 minute mark and the gospel choir comes in. oh god, it's SO beautiful.

she said before Brightest Blue came out that she'd been listening to Halcyon again and had forgotten how dark and sad it was. and it really is. this track is synonymous with long winter evenings to me.

Hanging On is lovely in a maudlin kinda way but it's a bit of a breather moment between all the classics. maybe the dubstep-lite production has aged a tad as well.

Well Tinie Tempah's rap has nothing to do with the song. AT ALL. I'm sure he just used some leftover lyrics and bunged them on. They literally have the OPPOSITE meaning of the song. STILL FUMING ABOUT THIS

the songwriting feels a bit more stream of consciousness on Explosions. reminds me a bit of Start from Brightest Blue (also great).

the chorus to this one is such a big warm hug. that piano! gorgeous. I didn't realise this had been a single (#13 UK). It sounds like a huge Christmas #1 to me.
