Ellie Goulding - I Know Too Much (album out now)

the poor love did seem quite downbeat when talking to us though so maybe she's seen the midweeks. she knows too much. :(

I gave this a few spins and it’s not bad. I mean it’s not gonna light up my personal year end chart BUT it’s pleasant enough.

do it. she needs your love.

the artwork is hilarious. it's giving baby's first industrial rock record. a perfect fit for this shimmery midtempo pop affair!!

I retooled the tracklist and think this is her best album since Delirium now, easily

Bless, though I guess they need to do something or it’ll miss the top 40 given how close sales are below the top twenty.

Every time I listen to this album it sounds better and better. So, so many good songs. I honestly can't accept that the floppage is down to the actual music.

Where should I go to next in her discography?

what else do you know already? start with the orphaned single Destiny if you didn't yet. as for her previous albums ...

Lights - guitar-driven songwriter pop, this album has bits of that sound - try The Writer
Halcyon - her masterpiece, a winter vibe - try My Blood
Halcyon Days - more electronic/upbeat reissue with 30+ songs (!) and very little quality drop-off. try Goodness Gracious or Beating Heart
Delirium - her Max Martin big pop record, try Something in the Way You Move or Codes
Brightest Blue - flop era begins here. disc one is pretty strong singer songwriter vibes, disc two is hits of mixed quality that A&R forced her to record at gunpoint. try Flux or Power
Higher Than Heaven - very smooth, cohesive disco/electropop. Love Goes On is a beauty.

Oooh, thanks for this!

Yep, I wasn't aware of Destiny until yesterday. Sought it out and I adore it! I've been giving Higher Than Heaven a spin this evening and loving it! I'll definitely be delving further. I guess I'm officially a little ghoul. (What does she actually call her fans?)

Delirium is just fucking excellent front to back. I've spun the living shit out of that album over the years. she probably hates it but the songs are bulletproof.

I need to throw Scream it Out on actually

Brightest Blue is her most mixed bag of an album for sure but she really doesn't have a bad effort. and you know what? I think it's time for an ELLISANDRA TOP 20.

DO IT, I've been mulling over mine subconsciously too. I think mine include some I Knew Too Much tracks :disco:

I absolutely need to listen to Delirium again. A tad bloated but such high highs. We can't move to this! :disco: Codes! :disco: Keep on dancing! :disco: and you know what? Love Me Like You Do :disco:

Ugh Delirium is so good, will give this a try tomorrow. Never bothered with the last 2 albums.

Four of five albums released hitherto by Ellie Goulding reached No.1 – 2010 debut Lights, 2012 follow-up Halcyon, 2020’s Brightest Blue and 2023’s Higher Than Heaven – with only 2015 release Delirium, which reached No.3, falling short. The 39-year-old singer/songwriter’s sixth album, I Know Too Much, has had good reviews, and is fully released, with CD, vinyl and cassette adding to its digital formats, yet it stumbles to a No.16 debut on consumption of 5,273 units. Halcyon is Goulding’s most-consumed album, with a to-date tally of 1,469,289 units.

I also had no idea HTH was #1. it probably only did about 10-12k but this is still a drop-off with 5270 sold.

great album though and she's rich and hot so FUCK THE GP
