I just read about The Quiet Man, of its time. That straight possessiveness is what puts me off a lot of films, including E.T. (not him, the boy)

Various sources (including her mother!) have stated she spent a year after college being tutored in music by the late Father Cathal O’Callaghan. The 2010 Irish Roots magazine piece says she had just turned 17 when she left college. So that would have been 1978. In that case, it was more than two years between leaving school and joining Clannad.

The 16 September 1997 Irish Independent states that she had to repeat her leaving Cert because she didn't get enough points on her exams! So perhaps that accounts for some of that 2+ year gap.

I'm aware, still trying to get back into education though but regarding music, I stopped formally studying it at 16; my restriction/what held me back was the teachers.

I'm guessing restrictions on how far one develops ideas, deadlines for coursework (a limited time to write compositions), and that it would be in a rather traditional style (not being able to be experimental enough with the music when you study it). College would only give 1 limited year for final projects, whereas she would want at least 2 years.

The house I grew up in was on my grandparents’ property, behind their house. Ours was built in the 1950s and wasn’t very big. We had a girls’ room and a boys’ room for nine children. I was the sixth, with four brothers and four sisters.

Edit: Grandparents' house is the pale green one; theirs is behind (and was since rebuilt). See old Clannad documentaries and the house before was a genuinely small, 1950s flat roof house.
