Obviously this will be an absolute landslide (in the UK) at least for the Brexit party. But for me the real story is the absolute wipeout of the Tories and to an increasingly similar extent Labour.

BREX: 34% (+4)
LAB: 16% (-5)
LDEM: 15% (+5)
GRN: 11% (+2)
CON: 10% (-3)
CHUK: 5% (-4)

When was the last time the Tories had TEN PER CENT in any national UK poll?

Obviously a lot of protest voting, but for now the two party system is DEAD. A general election would surely see a left wing coalition.
 
I wouldn't read general election into this at all. Lest we forget UKIP polled highest at the last Euro elections, and the last general election was massively back to two party.

Oh I know that. However the sheer lows that the two big parties are reaching is surely new territory.
 
It's actually remarkable that it wasn't definite we'd be voting in this until a fortnight ago. Fucking chaos.
 
Sad to report the only leaflet that’s come through my door was a brexit party one

I did think about burning it but they’ve already polluted the earth with enough gas so in to the paper bin it went
 
I think it's a massive missed opportunity for someone to make a "Remain party" because the vote is split for remainers. The leavers will claim victory even though they might only get a third of votes.

Change UK are supposed to be that, but MEH. If you include Labour the remainers make up 47% and if you include the Tories with the leavers than 44%. Little has changed.

Well exactly. Change are tarnished. We need JK Rowling (or insert person here) to rise up and do it.
 
I don't even know why CUK are so tarnished. They're just an UNIMPRESSIVE selection of MPs. Just join the Lib Dems already.
 
Leaflets from Green, CUK and UKIP together today! That's everyone except the Tories now.
 
First leaflets today from Labour and the Brexit party. Although, someone appears to have scribbled the words 'cunts' all over the Brexit party one.
 
I don't think I've had a single leaflet.

I'll be voting Lib Dem.

Hope my postal vote gets there, sent it yesterday. Was at a bit of a loss, but at least Lib Dem don’t want Brexit right?
 
I'm now wavering between Lib Dem and Green. I need to do a bit of reading up.
 
I don't know who to vote for. I'm NOT voting LIB DEM and I'm not sure whether there's much point voting GREEN up here. It might even let OWER TOMMEH in :zombie:

I dunno it’s a pretty big area, there’ll be plenty of green votes in Manchester i’m sure.
 
I'm really not quite sure why people get their knickers in a twist about the Lib Dems having been in a coalition. It's how the rest of the world's political systems work for pity's sake.

Having said that, I voted Green this time around, so sorry Vince :D
 
I just shudder to think of how much WORSE things would have been if they hadn't been there to temper things.

I have no problem with them for it, but then I never voted for them.

100% agree. Lib Dems have served their punishment and Clegg is gone. They likely made the coalition LESS TERRIBLE. But yes I have also voted Green.

Confidence and supply would have been a better route for the Lib Dems.
 
I've no doubt that LD managed to temper the worst of the Tories, but they weren't very good at shouting about it, and it mattered not when they were swept aside in 2015 anyway.

There's always been a notion that LD are slightly more left of centre and often their seats are where they're up against Tories. I voted LD in that election and honestly I might as well have voted Tory.

I get the coalitions in the world point but our governments aren't used to it and it shows.
 
Coalitions are a fact of voting systems that aren't exclusively first-past-the-post. The Lib Dems tragedy is that the first time the matter came up in their lifetime, it was The Tories who had the most votes. Had it been Labour, it would have been a much better fit.

You don't have to go with the party with the most votes. Other world coalitions show that too.

Indeed my local council did just that with, ironically, a LD-tory coalition after labour got the most seats.

Yes but the numbers weren't there to do anything else in 2010 - an "everyone against the Tories" coalition wouldn't have worked and Labour had lost too many seats so trying to cling on would have seemed undemocratic. Of course, given what passes for "democratic" now, I wish they'd tried a bit harder.
