Eurovision 2020: CANCELLED!

What should the EBU do?

  • Keep calm and carry on

    Votes: 2 7.1%

  • Hold the Contest in May via Satellite Link-Up from National Studios

    Votes: 6 21.4%

  • Delay until later in the year

    Votes: 16 57.1%

  • Cancel and hold 2021 in Rotterdam (Possibly with the same artists/songs)

    Votes: 2 7.1%

  • JUST SCRAP THE WHOLE BLOODY THING

  • Host the Contest in Rotterdam in May but with no/minimal Audience

    Votes: 1 3.6%

They should cancel and replace with a EUROVISION GREATEST HITS where a country can pick their favourite entry of the past and have the performance screened and we can all vote based on that.
 
OK so IF it can't happen as planned, and if a delay is too much of a faff and the satellite option is TOO UNFAIR, then I guess the only thing they can do is call it off and postpone to next year, BUT:

Keep it in Rotterdam
Recommend that countries give their current artists first refusal on whether to participate, including the option of keeping their current song

It means none of this year's crop necessarily have to lose out, but can go with a more up to date song if they so desire.

Equally means the major national finals aren't thrown off next year as they can take place, but it's up to each country to decide what to do. Maybe if Sweden really wanted to send The Mamas for example, they could still hold Melfest but on the understanding from the get-go that it's separate from Eurovision?

Nice idea. The only issue I have is that Rotterdam and the Dutch broadcaster have probably already spent so much money they will probably lose a fair whack on and they may not be willing to host again when it's not even certain 2021 is going to be safe to have either.

I guess in that instance they revert to their "What if Australia win / the winning country can't host" scenario, but only fair to give them the option first to host it how they had intended if they wish.

But doesn't that just mean anyone with a song that has had a shit reaction* will instantly just go for something else, thus giving lots of people a second chance?

(*- Bar the British, who just won't give a shit)
 
I quite like Shee’s idea but in terms of doing it for Melfest - a Melfest Allstars where popular songs and acts come back to compete in four heats. Hosted by The Mamas and Lynda Woodruff.

They can technically do that anyway up to a certain deadline, and even afterwards if they don't mind paying a fine.

It happens from time to time. Serhat going for the Disco version of I Didn't Know, Bulgaria entirely ignoring the results of their national final in 2013 because the artists didn't get the result they wanted etc.

That Bulgarian National Final of 2013 was AMAZING. You just about saw the FURIOUS faces of Elitsa and Stoyan and the show ended. :D :D

It does, but hey I’m all for it if it means we get a great set of songs after waiting a year.
 
They should just move it to the UK, since it’ll be the only country open still. That’s what the Big Five is for, right?

In other news the Euro 2020 (some Football thing) has been pushed back a full year. It was due to start in June.
 
The comments of some euroqueens in eurovision.tv are something else, from those who still believe there will be Eurovision as if nothing happens, to those suggesting to do it with music videos.
 
Two main rumours emerging today

1. Full cancellation, with 2021 to be held in Rotterdam with fresh songs
2. Pushback to September

Hoping fervently that the latter is true. It seems more realistic, unless their hands were absolutely tied I can't imagine cancellation wouldn't be the very last resort.
 
I'd be more upset about option one if we had a better batch of songs this year.
 
It can't be that easy to move something like Eurovision from May to September. And it's not even guaranteed everything will be back to normal then. I think they'll cancel it.
