Moving it to September seems unlikely from a logistical perspective even if they were able to put it on by then from a Corona perspective

I reckon it'll get canned for a year.

Twitter has finally caught up and are losing their shit about this now.

Its gonna be cancelled isn't? I hope they can do some kind vote though. Would be so sad to lose everything.

If the crazy speculation is right and nothing will happen until May 2021 with this year's songs not being valid, then surely they can consider one of the (more rubbish) backup options for this year's 16 May date.

Okay it won't count as a "proper" contest but they could still try a studio/satellite version, or even just play the music videos out. It would be nice to do something instead of just tossing all the songs away and skipping a year.

Yes, and I don't think they even considered the idea of doing it via satellite, that's all eurofan fantasy, it doesn't look serious at all.

I think the Dutch broadcaster really doesn't want that.

It definitely was considered, so if it doesn’t happen its because Rotterdam / smaller broadcasters weren’t for it or because they couldn’t reach an agreement on how to execute it.

You'd have to let Rotterdam host it next time; if that's set in stone they maybe they'd be more open to alternative interim suggestions?

The sheer number of people involved in getting a studio/satellite non-audience version up and running would make that very unlikely given that we're still supposed to be heading for peak virus in mid-May.

That would be quite sensible, let them choose to keep the same songs/artists or not.

I suspect that there hasn't been an announcement because they're trying to schedule it for sometime in the autumn and need the agreement of all the stakeholders. If that turns out not to be possible for whatever reason, then it will have to be a full cancellation.

The right thing to do is to allow all the artists who were due to compete this year first refusal on next year. For those that run national selections, they can save the money on them to recoup some of the money they lost.

Do you think there won't be a Melodifestivalen next year?

Oh huns, it was inevitable really

And such a shame because it was definitely our year :side-eye:

What a horrible waste. I really hope they let them still use the same songs, otherwise there's going to be a real "what could have been" element to the whole thing.

I agree. Uno might have been exposed too much (for its own good) but no one will remember Grow in a week and he said it was his best song ever. Let him compete with that.

I don’t think they’ll let them use the same songs. For some of them that’s a good thing. Others not so much. But most of the National finals are small fry anyway. It’s only really Melodifestivalen that’s big business. And yes an All Stars is a good idea.

They MUST let them keep the acts and songs, it’s completely unfair otherwise.
