Eurovision 2024: Malmö Arena

Apparently we hadn't done this before now. Good to see the reports that the Semi Finals will stay on BBC1 have been verified.

 
In addition, the BBC today also confirms that the search for the 2024 act and song for the United Kingdom has taken place over the Summer, led by Lee Smithurst, Executive Producer BBC Studios alongside Will Wilkin, Commissioning Executive BBC Music.

Further information regarding the United Kingdom’s participation at the next Eurovision Song Contest - including the entry for 2024 - will be announced in due course.

That makes it sound like they have somebody signed up already.

Turns out they're planning a national final with 4 performers instead...

Even with a couple of million viewers it will still probably beat most things on in that timeslot.

Yes, he was in charge for Sam Ryder and James Newman before handing over the reins last year to focus on the production of the contest itself. He's back in his usual post for 2024.

Not somebody I have a great amount if faith in - Newman alone should have been sufficient enough for a complete clear out of that team.

They tweeted something about Biktopia wanting to represent them again as well. Their first tweet since Eurovision. It's clearly nothing though.
 
I thought they’d “accidentally” reposted a tweet from 2019.
 
Israel’s national final has resumed filming and the first episode goes out next Tuesday :bruised:
 


Given the deadline to withdraw without penalty has passed, it’s probably a good sign if they’re still discussing.
 
I’m going to plump for 39. We manage to keep all of last years crop + Luxembourg and North Macedonia.

That is looking the most likely.

Still hoping Montenegro pull a surprise but it’s gone very quiet on that front.
 
Possibly just a slip of the tongue, but during the France artist announcement today, their HoD twice said that there would be 41 countries at the Contest next year.

For that to be true, that would mean the entire class of 2023 would be back (inc. Australia and Armenia) plus Luxembourg, North Macedonia and two others. One most likely would be Montenegro - could the other be Bulgaria?
 
It's entirely possible, SVT is usually quite good with cutting down costs when hosting which in theory could make countries like Bulgaria reconsider.

I just checked and apparently the HoDs don’t know the finalised list of countries.
 
Czechia are having their national final on December 4th, another entry chosen before Albania :o they got the charisma vacuum that presented the (exceptionally low budget, online-only) national final last year to announce it, so I guess he’s back too. ADONXS, the out gay Slovak pop star that I mentioned before, has been in Sweden writing and recording for a “project” so will almost certainly turn up.
 
The fact that I never even noticed 2009 apparently didn’t even have a slogan shows how invested I was in it as a concept :D
 
It was ludicrous that Eurovision 2002 of all Eurovisions affected the 20 subsequent Eurovisions in this way.
 
We were robbed of 21 years of Eurocat. Now that’s an innovation I can get behind.
 
The most relevant thing of the announcement article is the line "The list of public service media broadcasters who will take part next year is currently being finalized and will be published in its entirety once preparations are complete." - hopefully this means there's ongoing negotiations with one or more countries.
 
I think the last time we had a genuine surprise on the list was when Slovakia was in in 2011 despite saying publicly they'd withdrawn beforehand (it later transpired they'd forgotten to do so officially so figured they might as well stay in rather than pay a fine :D). Hungary in 2007 was out of nowhere I seem to remember, they'd said nothing publicly beforehand.
 
The 41 number has been touted in a couple of more articles. I can’t find the tweet but someone in the German delegation had mentioned it.
