Eurovision 2024: Malmö Arena

Oh go on then, come ‘ome Andorra. I can’t recall a single one of their entities though. Coco Dance they ain’t

Andorra being the only nation to have competed but *never* appeared in a final will always give them an air of unfinished business for me.

Especially given they absolutely would have had 2007 been a two-semi year.

Though 2007 is by far their worst

I don’t think the sweater boy was supposed to win this year, so I imagine this format change is intended to eliminate any further surprises.

Can’t have that pesky public actually making their own choices!

Ridiculous move - they are meant to be selecting a contest for a *live* singing contest. Performances don’t have to be perfect and controlled.

The country of Malta and its population must be destroyed to stop this idea spreading via lazy producers to the contest proper.

But the semi-finals do require live performances, which is even more confusing! Maybe the leisure centre hall was already booked up for the night of their final?

Wow, they really did listen to the feedback and solved everything that went wrong this year then :bruised:
(On the other hand, the perspective to see Aidan or Cuntess back into the competition as soon as in October is quite thrilling)

BREAKING NEWS : the search for Malta's 2025 representative begins TODAY, with the final rumored NOT to feature ANY song or music.

I actually don't think this is the worst idea. Now, I don't understand why we need music videos AND live-on-tape performances, but the live-on-tape kind of makes sense when you think about it.

Countries like Malta are never going to have the strongest of production values in their national finals, so why not give the performers a bit of budget and a few takes to create a performance that is closer to what we might see on the Eurovision stage? They'll still have time limits and rules to stick to and the songs will still be performed live, they just won't be broadcast live.

And ‘Angel’ is still one of the prettiest songs to have been in the contest

Maybe we can get the TWINS to write her a smash hit. :disco:

Wahlgren is out of the running as she's landed Måns' and Sanna's old job as hostess for Allsång på Skansen.

That's Sweden's highest profile summer season hosting gig and positions her nicely for Sweden's next win.
Allsång på Skansen got great ratings and Pernilla is signed on with SVT for another year. ESC and ApS don't really overlap so she might be in contention after all.

Why did this rule her out in the first place?

I thought ESC and the ApS rehearsal schedule overlapped.

Even though she's mainly a singer, Pernilla does make more sense than Sanna as a comedic foil to Mans. On the other hand SVT prefers to reward loyal and faithful service, Pernilla doesn't fit the bill there.

Do you need a comedic foil? Hosts with natural chemistry would be preferable (the BBC achieved that brilliantly this year). The concept of the straight one and the funny one seems a bit passé.

You don't need it but the Melfest producers prefers it that way. Almost all of the more successful Melfest constellations has included at least one comedian.

I don't know about that. This years presenting wouldn't have been half as good if it weren't for Hannah Waddingham's comedic timing.

Norton and Waddingham had great chemistry, but you can't underestimate the role that them being a skilled comedian and a top drawer comic actor played in that.

More promising noises from Slovakia for 2025.

Will Eurovision be on RTVS already next year?

Not yet. We are to discuss it in the next few days. We are indeed one of the few countries that does not broadcast Eurovision. Finances are very demanding and so is preparation. In 2024, we will declare that in another year - if everything goes without problems - we will enter Eurovision. We received relatively good offers for entry. It wasn't something that would put us off, but it wasn't small money either. But we won't catch Eurovision in RTVS until May.

We also have to decide in what form we will select the Slovak participant. In 2011, Miro Šmajda represented us, saying that he came on television with the proposal that he would cover the costs because he had sponsors behind him.Eurovision is a pan-European affair and Slovakia should also be represented in it.

On the other hand, they have elections in two weeks time and the frontrunner is a nationalist Russia apologist who models himself on Viktor Orban. :gross:

So this could very well come to nothing.

She SAVED Schlager in 2010 and pop music in 2013. What is it that isn't LOYAL and FAITHFUL about that.

Rumours abound that Slovenia will be represented by multi-time NF runner up Raiven - there have been hints for some time but now she’s announced a song called Sirene to be released Saturday 17th February (which is typically the exact Saturday Slovenia select/announce).

YES to more Slovenian conceptual music, Zažarim and Kaos were great !

There was no indication that they wouldn’t be back, but given their woeful qualification record I do always worry…

I was looking back through their recent entries the other day - why is everything they send so forgettable (with exceptions which are just wtf instead :queenofthenight:)?

I still like Sudden Lights a lot, but yeah the fact that they don't seem to be changing their approach at all doesn't bode brilliantly.

I look forward to another low budget bop from the increasingly haggard Marcus Riva.

They’ve got the man behind the smash hit American Song Contest in to produce the 2024 contest:
