By contrast people on Netflix FB post thinks it looks amazing. I will of course watch it. I presume Graham Norton did it just for the cheque.
 
Yep, it looks godawful. As suspected, more because it’s full of shit Will Ferrell “humour” than how it actually portrays the contest.
 
I actually think it looks much better than I expected it to. It’s just a bit of harmless fun really. It’s not going to be anything amazing but it doesn’t look embarrassing either.

Eurovision is the show which in recent years has had an Australian woman sing popera at the top of a pole-vault pole, a Turkish dentist repeatedly paid a fortune to a microstate to sing his sleazebag disco tunes, a woman win with a song with chicken noises, a prop of a man in a hamster wheel, a bunch of old ladies with a prop of a loaf of being taken out of an oven... if anything the movie seems rather tame compared to reality!
 
I mean... i'm definitely going to watch it. This is a universe in which GLASGOW is the host city so i'm supportive. :disco:

It seems toally respectful to the, admittedly, ludicrous source material, but also it's a 3 minute trailer with not one funny joke.
 
I’m getting loads of excited messages from my straight friends about this. I can’t tell if they’re pandering to me because they know I love Eurovision, or if it’s genuinely going to work for that audience.

Probably a bit of both.

Yes lots from me too. They all sound really excited about it. Anything that gives the show a wider audience is a good thing. We are not the target market.
 
Can't imagine why he isn't squarely aiming the film at the approx one percent of the population who takes Eurovision seriously.

I'm in, although fully expecting it to be a 5/10 affair at best.

To be honest I can’t see this being particularly good for the Eurovision brand or particularly disastrous.

It’s more likely just another cheap comedy that will be quickly forgotten about by everyone bar hardcore Eurovision fans or hardcore Will Ferrell fans.
 
It feels like a weird time to release it. It'd make perfect sense in April or May.
 
I really cannot take Scooch seriously anymore (YES I know that is riduculous saying that) due to what David has done to his FACE! :D
 
So the reviews are negative because they are not taking the PISS out of the contest as much as they want them to?
 
What is it with these comedy films that are over 2 hours long? The vast majority of them suffer because of it and the number one criticism (particularly Judd Apatow fodder) is usually “The jokes run thin. The film is half an hour too long”. Will they ever learn?

I would imagine Will Ferrell is too much of an AUTEUR to take criticism/editing advice on his projects

It's most of the 21st Century American comedy giants. They love to do extended scenes of improv and don't know how to EDIT!

And yet when they are GENUINELY funny a’la the jewellery shop fight with the tween in Bridesmaids, it’s cut down.

What’s this? OMG this 3rd rate b-side from yet another Hilda Svensson clone is infectious and the most incredible thing you’ll hear this side of 2020!!!

Magic FM is doing some sort of link up with this with all day Eurovision songs and a “Greatest Fan” quiz thing.

I’ve been asked by my friend to promote it amongst the loons here but I entirely forgot until this evening...
 
I’m having my friends (they’re twins and have been living together during lockdown) over on Saturday to watch this. :disco:
 
I’m still not hopeful about this, but the soundtrack is LOTS of fun.

Eurovision fans HATE IT! Apparently they get a lot wrong. For starters...
