What is DMlaw? Win what game? Mel Sykes? Smith?

Fellow Moopists: why did you choose your username, what does it mean, and do you still LIKE it? If you were joining today, would you want to be called something different? I'm a nosy bastard and I demand to know.

I joined dotmusic in 1999 to troll spice girls fans and spur of the moment 16-year-old music snob me assumed that The_Indie_Rocker would be a great way to display my musical superiority.

By then people knew me as that so just shortened to Indie on Moopy.
 
When I signed up I'd just got back from living in Germany where me and my fellow langauge geeks has a HILARIOUS injoke about how the word Tischlampe (desk lamp) contains the word Schlampe (slut). It still raises a slight TITTER to this day occasionally but it really doesn't mean anything to me these days. I have thought about asking to change it to TISCH but haven't yet.

When I set up my account I was listening to 'Steal My Sunshine' by Len. There's a line in it: 'Does he like buttertarts?'. I Googled it to make sure it wasn't a weird sex thing, and became iconic from thereon.

I was going to call myself Punk in reference to my favourite wrestler, but I seriously believed Indie would think I was copying him with a musically themed name.

pop lolly (which was my original dot username) came about because one of Mr L's nicknames for me was lollipop (grim I know, but it was VERY EARLY DAYS). And then he would sing the Prince song Daddy Pop ('pop daddy, daddy pop') as 'pop lolly, lolly pop' instead.

When dot died I just dropped the pop, as most people referred to me as that by then, anyway.
 
Mine is hopefully very obvious. Ag is short for Agnetha as it was until about five years ago. It wasn't intended to be a female alias. It was just a username I picked back in 1999. With retrospect I joined at a point when ABBA were at peak comeback. It was nearly Debbie (as in Harry) who were also back.

I am named after the greatest two men to ever grace the Eurovision stage and there shall be prices to be paid if I don't get the nod when Moopyvision reaches Croatia.
 
The dm is my initials and the law is the degree that I had fairly recently completed when I was signing up for a previous forum in 2005 or so. I don't hate it, but I also probably wouldn't pick it were I registering today.

mine is based on some company my dad used to work with. it was a dutch company i think? i remember seeing a variation of the spelling of ameraal on some random document letterhead in the 90s and i liked that it could be male or female and didn't raise any associations so i changed the letters a bit and it was my first online alias what now is decades ago for a while (i would alternate with havoc, inspired by the marvel universe character).

a friend used to poke fun and call me admiral :evil: he is no longer my friend.
 
Most of you dotmusic trolls managed to do it because you were at Uni or College using their fast internet connections. I could never join in as I had a 28k dialup modem and had to open topics with care and log offline to take time to read them.
 
My initials, I couldn't think of anything better, I don't like it these days but could never change it.

Whenever I'm doing VAT for a longtime client of mine and I come to an invoice from Ammeraal Beltech I think of you. But you know that already because it was the only thing I could ever think to write about you on Moopyrate for many years. :D

Back on Dotmusic, my name was Caligula. Looking back, I would like to say that the 16yo in me was projecting into a future of cruel sadism and sexual perversion. But I think I actually took it from a song title on Macy Gray's On How Life Is.

I left Dotmusic for a number of years and found Moopy, my profile leads me to believe, in 05, circa The Emancipation of Mimi. I must have been in Nice at the time (brushing up on my spoken French during my Easter holidays in my first year at university). I guess I had encountered the word "loufoque", meaning zany, wacky, goofy, although I don't think I attached any significance to the meaning itself; I think I just liked the shape and interplay of the letters.

Voilà.
 
Mine's from when I signed up for some forum in 1999 and thought 'David_2000' would seem dated very quickly. I'd probably go for something completely different now, or at least remove the underscore.
