Explain Your Username

Oh I've definitely read usernames and wanted to know its origin.

@dUb EXPLAIN YOURSELF
I was originally called dUbscruB. Dub for Dublin, scrub for TLC. I’m sure the upper/lower case thing was inspired by the film eXistenZ. Anyway then I shortened it to dUb. I like the symmetry of it. :)

That's what I always thought was the reasoning behind the name.

Well I was originally 'Suedehead' (my original Dotmusic name from 1998). But as the performer of that song has revealed himself to be the vile racist many have accused him of being all along, I decided to change it to 'Suedey' (which is what most people called me anyway).

I would like to change it at some point to something totally different as I'd rather have no association whatsoever with him anymore but that's sort of frowned upon here, and I also feel that my name hopefully doesn't conjure up any any major association with HIM...

I've thought about shortening my name to Kala like many of you already have, since that's what everyone calls me anyway, but I dunno...

Mine comes from the lyric of a Linda Bengtzing song - she's a Swedish singer who has tried and failed to represent Sweden at Eurovision about 24 times. Incidentally the song is called 'Alla Flickor'. This is pure coincidence. Kalabalik is a Swedish word, which means havoc or uproar, and the -en means 'the' in Swedish. I thought that was quite apt for Moopy circa 2012.

I came to this thread specifically to find this out

I did English at university and was reading The Night of the Iguana by Tennessee Williams at the time I signed up to Moopy, so my username comes directly from that.

I've never used Iguana as a name on any other platform so it's very specific to Moopy.

ButterTart isn't a word I think I've even said out loud, it has absolutely no significance outside Moopy.

So when my Moopy mug came addressed to ButterTart and was left with my ELDERLY NEIGHBOUR, I was at a bit of a loss to explain it.

:D

You should have just played him or her the song and been like "SEE?" at the relevant part

I assumed ButterTart was a translation of boterkoek. For months I thought you were part of the Dutch contingent round these parts.

Well I signed up on Dot in 1998 as Daveyboy because I was 16 and I’d never had a nickname and didn’t have the imagination to think of one. My hotmail address still has this forever but it’s too tied up to too many accounts to change it now.

but then the dotmusic username thing happened and someone swooped in and took it. At that time I was 1st year uni and crushing hard on a Brummie in my dorm. There were two Davids in my block, so to distinguish us, the other tenants called him Ginger Dave, and me Camp David for a bit but i wasn’t really that camp and lots of people didn’t get the joke (me included) and said Brummie started Diddy Dave because I was short.

don’t know when exactly the Dave got trimmed off, but I don’t really like it, I’m never called Dave anyway, so I’m Diddy.

nothing to do with P Diddy or Diddy Dirty Money, I think he was still Puff Daddy in 2001

Goodness, when did we all change our names to tube stations too? I haven’t changed my avatar since then

My hotmail adress is also my first and only real private email adress I’ve had since 1999.

I ALWAYS think of you during this Leona song - DUMB DUMB DIDDY

Aww, I missed zoo day. I was in the pub after work, got home just a wee bit pissed and had no idea who the hell anyone was...

Do those happen in a special event or something? The train stations all felt a bit MONOPOLY to me.

I think it came from "Still Standing" and perhaps this visual. I joined at an all time peak of my Kylie fandom, at which time Body Language was my favorite Kylie album.
