I think obscurity is a relative term. My playlist has had a few ?? for songs that I definitely didn’t consider obscure when I was picking them. Maybe not the most famous song by the artist but top 40 in their own right.

I suppose it just doesn't seem in the spirit of the game to me! It seems like common courtesy to give any songs you don't know at least a very quick Spotify/YouTube search and listen, when the other players are probably affording you that courtesy by doing the same.

See, I saw this as putting together a playlist you loved to fit each theme as opposed to just picking the ten most famous songs. I may have misjudged this.

I listened to a couple of songs only to confirm whether I already knew them or not and wasn't recognising the title. Any song I'd never heard gets a ?? regardless of my opinion on it.

The spirit of the game as far as I UNDERSTAND IT isn't discovering/sharing new music. Surely it's about picking songs to get points - and the more well-known and well-liked, the better your chances

I'm relaxed about the people giving ?? scores. Never having heard songs like Only Happy When It Rains, A&E and Carry Me Home, whilst having listened to multiple Mariah Carey albums, is in many ways its own punishment.

Like I wasn't sure which Sonic Youth song that was in @Indie's list from the title but a two second blast confirmed it was the one with the fabulous feminist talky bit so it had to get a 10

I agree with everything @dUb says apart from when he got a bit sneery in that last post. Xx I've done the same and gave a listen to stuff just to make sure there weren't any obvious songs I actually do know, just might have not repcgnised by name (and there were some).

For me the game is "do you like my playlist?" It's not ASFM where we listen and form opinions on the songs, it's a straight "what will get me points".

Yeah. I spent ages coming up with the perfect closer (which has done me literally no good) and researched each song to ensure they matched the theme - there was one I almost included which would have bagged me a ton of points but didn’t technically fit the theme so I binned it off.

For what it’s worth, I think folk should at least put the song on for 30 seconds, I’m sure many people know some of those songs even if they don’t recognise the song/artist by name

I think Spotify playlists would help make it easier as well, maybe in future rounds where there are less playlists?

And yes @Kate I put thought in to my running order (it might not appear that I have though)

I did have all these thoughts about points for creativity but for round one and with people not really familiar with the game it was overkill. There is plenty of time for all that in the final rounds

It was clear that later rounds would consist of playlists - this round is to expunge the wheat from the chaff. The rules were clear that if you included more obscure songs, you risked getting ??s, and that the game was really about guessing what your audience would like from looking at a list. Otherwise it really is like going on Family Fortunes and complaining that your Pointless answer didn't win you any points. Les Dennis AGOG

Can I also just say that by making sure that you were matched against someone with the same theme was supposed to help this people not knowing the songs malarkey - because if someone is rating your indie playlist and they don’t like indie, they’re also rating your opponents playlist exactly the same


Of course that’ll all be out the window in the next round but I thought that was nice of me
