Cause they really were the one band that PASSED ME BY ENTIRELY in the 90s/00s pop SCENE

In retrospect they sound hilariously cheap.

Boom Boom Boom Boom is probably the strongest pop tune but I have a sly affection for the extreme lyrical dodgy-ness of Kiss (When The Sun Don't Shine)

I totally had you down as the kind of person who'd vote for 'Forever As One' and argue the case for it becoming an X Factor staple had it been recorded by Shania Twain or someone similarly embarassingly 1999.

I think the first three singles stand up well enough for what they are (or were).
 
The whole of the 'Up and Down - The Party Album' is amazing. It gets really trancey in the latter half and competed with the so-called 'cool trance artists' of the time. Most Trance fans missed out on this due to their own foolish tunnel-vision and 'run with the pack' mentality.

'To Brazil' is my favourite track on the album, but singles-wise it's 'Up and Down' for me anyday - good memories.

We Like To Party! for nostalgia reasons. It got played ironically at a birthday party I went to a while back and everyone (being of the generation that were 8 and 9 years old when it came out) went mad for it.

I can see now that "Up and Down" is quite a good solid dance track though. I just thought it was a bit boring as a kid at the time. The only other song I really liked was "Boom Boom Boom Boom." Donna Winter is right when saying that everything following was pretty much dire.

I've quite curiously gone for Uncle John From Jamaica. It wasn't even on my radar when the Vengas played my uni ball last year (they can't even get top billing in ABERYSTWYTH), but it was a total highlight when they did it.
 
They really did nail the formula for brainless boppers. Currently re-assessing Up & Down (those whoooo's are going to make someone wet themself on the dancefloor one day), but Kiss is everything that was good about bubblegum europop and then some.
 
This has been a vital recent CHAV discovery.



I think Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom is marginally the best one, the lyrics are cool because they could be about love or having sex. They're quite clever like that, I'm sure Kiss has emerged as a rimming anthem in some quarters. I do miss their sort of novelty European cheese.

Oh K-Row, unwanted in any setting. Boom Boom Boom Boom was the first and last #1 about taking 2 in the same hole I can think of.
 
I voted for Boom Boom Boom Boom cause it's the closest to a sexy love ballad from the Vengaboys!
 
One of my proudest moment is still getting blanked my all of them in Dublin except the cowboy one who did talk to us!

did they lose the plot or just lost MOMENTUM yb the second album? I remember seeing the video where they featured a robot on TV once and being AGOG at how shit they became.

They started off well with Kiss and even Sha La La had it's merits, but it really started going spazzy after that.
 
Nowadays I think I like Ibiza the most. And Sha la la la for being so ridiculous. Their sound was cheap as fuck but they were a fun group with rather NICE music. We don't see anything like that anymore.
 
Their production sounds unbelievably cheap these days even for the time, but they were good fun and certainly made a little go a VERY LONG WAY.

Also, I heard Shalalalala about six times in various pubs and bars when I was in Austria last year. I can't tell you how much this pleased me.

How long did people believe the story of them being Spanish? I think it went wrong here in the Netherlands when they didn't know the V should be pronounced as a B in Spanish :D
