Festival Di Soldi - Semi Final 1 - Playlists & Recap CLOSES WEDNESDAY 10TH JUNE 12PM

Iceland - a bit Jessie Ware, i like !

Kiribati - not my sorta thing. Still 1000 times better than Gilead

Tuvalu - More electropoppy fun, good stuff

Fiji - I like it but oh so dated

Hungary - oof that voice is not pleasant

So being entirely backward with this stuff (and most stuff) I of course struggled like a blind 106 year old to actually watch this while browsing moopy on my phone, when really all I had to do was "save" the playlist but OH WELL. I was thrown because Cob's I just had to type into youtube to find and expected the same of this. Of course it was then too late.

Anyhoo...I like about 3 or 4 songs at a push :D

So glad I'm in/wish I was in this semi guys :)

Long story short, Hungary, India and Gilead are the big winners with the BT jury.
Kiribati is also a favourite, though I’m worried I’ll be the only one giving it points.

Re-listening:

Portugal - There’s a very good song there. Love the instrumental bits, the vocals reminds me of Banks.

Antigua - Does this really start on that note? Already tired of it. Oh no wait, it sounds like it starts later on? Eh, no it’s still the same song. Terrible.

Ghana - I thought this sounded better yesterday. Again, nice instrumentals, would have been better without the vocals.

Portugal - An okay pop song but I'm pretty sure I'd never feel an urge to go back to it

Antigua & Barbuda - I know and love this, though not this version so much. The remix would probably have gone down better. Omg this has given me the best idea for the next one of these

Ghana - I'm sure I know this too and I suppose it's fun for about minute. I suppose.

Australia - ooh a MOOD PIECE. But not one you want hanging around for too long, or else you break out the uppers, only to...

Gilead - ...find yourself in this mess. Definitely not fun for Gilead, or anyone surely. Back on the downers and the cycle of addiction and mental health pains rotate once more.

Uruguay - Feels almost theatrical. Quite dramatic. Rather good.

Saint Pierre & Miquelon - There's a bit that sounds like such an amazing pre-chorus until you realize it IS the chorus. Takes the shine off but otherwise, yeah I'll take it.

Ivory Coast - I'm on spotify, is this the twinkgate song? I don't hate it. Those lyrics though! Beyond trite

Georgia - Just went to make a cuppa and missed most of it

India - Someone said last night this was nowhere near the best of its genre. I wouldn't know but it seems right, like sending Cascada to represent the best of dance music. And yet...why not?

Iceland - I don't know why it makes me :D that this doesn't really go anywhere, probably because she sounds quite passive aggressive to me and not giving us a chorus is just part of her attitude. Compelling though.

Kiribati - No fucking way.

Tuvalu - This is the best so far. Once again I'm happy for variety but wanting that variety to be good is surely not too much to ask. This song manages to be really fucking good at what it's choosing to do.

Fiji - Did everyone just assume this was Rita's? I mean it probably is but still :D It's alright but I'm not wholly enamoured.

Hungary - Kind of love everything about this, even the vocals, even the obnoxious way it outstays its welcome by a good minute.

Cuba - Oh my, this is so luscious. The synths, the way her voice is layered, the instrumentation, it's gorgeous. It's not a perfect *song* but the way it all comes together is.

Norway - what's a comparison here? Maybe Israel's Eurovision entry this year in that you want to like it more than the song allows. A touch lacklustre.

Babylon - I really, really enjoy this - it was nearly over before I even realized the song was instrumental. Satisfying.

Venezuela - and you can most definitely keep this, thanks all the same

That's way more songs I like than first thought. Shouldn't be hard dishing out the points nor the order, but I'll give them a couple more days.

Woted! Had a second listen today and adjusted scores accordingly. Most grew on me but some grew off. :( The recap was ace as well. Helped me confirm and a couple swapped places at the last minute!

Portugal - a BOP. I will look into these when the Festival is over
Antigua & Barbuda - Without the video this isn't too bad actually. The video is so stupid though :D
Ghana - Another BOP. Feels like it goes on a bit but it's only 3.5 mins!
Austria - Nope
Gilead - MY EYES. MY EARS.
Uruguay - Not bad. Forgettable amongst the rest
St Pierre and Miquelon - Feels like it should be better but pretty bland. The rabbit's fun
Ivory Coast - I've got well into this little twink actually. The song is nothing special but for a throwaway piece it's a toe-tapping listen
Georgia - What an off-putting bunch of people.
India - Could definitely do the Bollywood lightbulb dance to this! :disco:
Iceland - A big grower! Maybe a bit too bland for this competition but it's nice. Another one I'll look into further.
Kiribati - Wut?
Tuvalu - Lovely!
Fiji - Out of place
Hungary - ALSO one I'll keep an eye on. This was great yesterday and even greater today
Cuba - Downgraded this one slightly between listens but it's still a nice tune
Norway - Great!
Babylon - MENTAL
Venezuela - Another downgraded one, but still one of the strongest of the bunch

I’ve had FOUR votes in so far, at the point totals at the top currently are:
1st - 27 points
2nd - 24 points
3rd - 23 points
4th - 20 points
5th - 20 points

If you’re going to enter the same artist as ASFM then you need to make sure it’s a better song - or at least as good as! This is just offensive.

I really can't tell if Gilead is a 0/10 or a 10/10, there is no middle ground. I admire the bravery and for that I feel like I'll need to reward it HIGHLY

I just realised it’s not the same artist just a twink with a similar name. Still shit.

I don't know if you're all trolling with that Gilead "song" like he's doing sending that.:D At least he got his 15 minutes of glory. :)

For some reason Venezuela sounded like a highlight last night but now that I’m listening to it again...

By the way, how will the votes from the semis be presented?

I think @Beverley termed it sass without substance which is correct. I think people were swept up by the faux sass initially but the cold light of day reveals a different picture.
