Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Rebirth, and Revelation

a) the whole concept of a demo is highly nostalgic, b) I think it's good spirit to let people test the game and see if it's up their street, c) I'm a stingy cunt anyway and will wait to buy till it's 50% off

Was the submarine game in the golden saucer? That’s the only one I bothered with/could do. Apart from Chocobo racing but there was shit to win there.

btw do you all say chocobo like chocolate, or like chode?

I mean, it's gonna be set in Midgar and EVERYONE I know back in the day used to say how curious they were about the other Sectors. So this is their chance to give us an Open-Midgar. I wanna see every corner of it.

According to leaks there are plenty of new areas, but you don’t get to see any new sectors.

I haven't played the original for ages, feels like I need to speed through it again just to appreciate this all the more. It really was/is the finest game of ALL TIME

Please don't let this be shit!
I went through it again about 6 months ago. I got to when you get the tiny bronco and gave up.
It’s my favourite game of all time but the battle system is a tad slow these days.

Well the demo's good. I played on normal and fuck me I've always known I'm shit at games but that Scorpion boss was hard. Also struggling to understand the combat system and switching back and forth between characters, I definitely need another go around. Very promising though.

Looks stunning, the nostalgia was incredible, AMAZING soundtrack, terrible cheesy dialogue and voice acting, and Barret's absurd titanic hotness :disco:

All very member berries with a new fangled battle system (that seems like a lot going on for this slow mind) but I'm ITCHING for it all now. Hearing that theme and seeing the opening titles made me squeal out loud.

The character switching will definitely take a bit of getting used to, but I really like how they've managed to give each character a distinct feel (I think I actually preferred Barret to Cloud), and the combat switching between action and more traditional commands is basically what I wanted (but didn't really get) from FFXV.

I think I'm just finding it confusing that you can switch between whatever character you're playing as physically, but then at the same time pick commands for the other character and vice versa. It felt like it was either too easy to forget about the other character and let them get on with it, and I struggled to know when to take control or when to be the other character giving a command, if that makes sense.

I just wanted better auto control from Barrett when playing as Cloud, and vice versa. I MAY have been playing it wrong, but I mainly played as Cloud and my Barrett barely attacked of his own accord.

Dragon Quest autoplays most of your party (if you want the game to) with varying aggression/defence levels. Maybe FF7 adds something similar in as the game progresses.

The demo was excellent. The Scorpion was hard!! I used like 10 potions

in almost every game with a similar combat system you can micromanage your party's stance (ranged/melee/aggressive/defensive). maybe the settings are just not included in the demo

I managed to play tonight and absolutely loved it. I think I only had one minor gripe and that was on the way out of the reactor how difficult it was to get Barret to attack the turret gun things both while playing as Cloud or Barret. Surely the AI should know to target them when Cloud is dealing with the other things and no matter how much I switched to Barret to try I found it super difficult to swap to the guns. Really minor though.

I love that you can give order to others without SWITCHING to them.

I CANNOT wait to see how abilities/materia is gonna be like.

Im really very excited about this after playing the demo.
DO NOT LET ME DOWN

I've just started it again and currently at Kalm. Thank fuck you can makes this run triple speed with the touch of a button because it makes most battles a lot less tedious. Although I've also died many times that way. But you can make Cloud run around speedily and skip through dialogue etc so it kind of removes the dull bits.

lf there was ever a time I need to self isolate it's NOW so I can use my hours wisely, like finishing this :disco:

Yup, I finished FF8 the same way. Although that game is abusable AS FUCK.

The demo looked incredibly and given that it's 20 odd years since I put my last put my hands on the original version it was exactly how I'd remembered that opening being. The voice acting was dumb but I kind of expected that. I got killed by the scorpion and didn't bother going back for a second try as I just wanted a taster. I couldn't work out what the game wanted me to do to open up its weak spots.

I think something might be up with the Release Date again...
Hopefully not! I saw some people who'd pre-ordered with Amazon saying they got emails about possible delays, but I think that's more to do with Amazon prioritising other stuff at the moment.

Yup, that's what happened to me. I'm guessing it's corona related one way or another.

SE have announced that to ensure this gets to people in time they’ve shipped it early to Europe and Australia. Nobody knows if this means it’ll actually break street date but I have everything crossed!

I'm still ploughing through the original. The speed up option is a GODSEND

Praying for a filthy date with Barret this time

I could be mistaken but I think you only get to date him if you're HORRIBLE to all the girls whenever you have a choice of dialogue with them :D

It’s broken street date here and is out in shops. I’m off to buy it now :o

Oh my! I wonder if the release date everywhere else will be moved forward now?

So I’m 3 hours in and it started quite well, but once I made it to Sector 7 slums it went a bit downhill. I’m doing quests for residents like “kill some rats”. It’s not that it’s bad, it’s just this isn’t really what I wanted.
It also has a massive whiff of FFXV about it. It’s basically FFXV with a slightly better battle system and FFVII story.
Still early days though!

That's usually the case, but annoyingly some obvious options are irrelevant in the dating system and others are a lot more CRAFTY in the choice you make.

I started with a guide for this one so if I don't get to furiously rim Barret I'll be FUMING

I skipped FFXV - the first one ever since 7 came out (well apart from 11, 14 and a few spin-offs so actually quite a lot really :D) but that doesn't sound too promising. I don't mind sidequests, I assumed they would factor into the areas in a way they never did before but I hope it doesn't lose the story flow.

I've pre-ordered, which I never do, based on this latest news so let's see.

Amazon just sent out an email saying that it might arrive later because of prioritizing health/hygiene products. If that happens I'll just buy it from Target and get a refund.

@Lee keep us posted about the quality, but not too many spoilers!

i actually had to sign a form saying I wouldn’t talk about it online when I picked it up! Ridiculous!
But yes I’ll keep it light on spoilers.
Unfortunately unlike most people at the moment, I’m still going to work. So I’ll only get in an hour or two an evening.

Interestingly I’m about 9 hours in and haven’t seen 90% of the scenes in that trailer yet.

Mine is coming tomorrow apparently too! Oh god I can't although I've not read anything and @Lee has deflated me somewhat. Please don't be shit :D

Sorry! :D
I’m enjoying it a little more now I’ve been through some dungeons. There were only a couple of these side missions so I don’t think the game is going to be full of them.
I’m really enjoying the battle system, and the extra bits of story I’ve seen so far.
The base of the game is still FFXV though. If you played it you’ll recognise things like the much lower quality NPC who spout the same sentences as you walk by them, the same repeated sentences every time you finish a battle, the couple of generic monster quests, some of the dungeons feel quite similar.
