Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Rebirth, and Revelation

Cait Sith was the most rubbish character. That Limit Break was just ever so DODGY.
He's a KING you take it back :oi: I'm sure he'll play differently, just like how Tifa doesn't have the slots any more. I'm more curious to see whether they'll have the giant moogle since he only uses it in the original game, in Advent Children and the other spinoffs they just have him ride on Red XIII's back instead.

Nope!

Quite sexy for a big racist!
I've played the original FFVII TWICE and I have no idea wtf that is.
He wasn't a BIG character to be fair, he was one of the horny people hanging around the Honey Bee Inn.

Oh yeah I remember him now. Somehow they nailed his look, even going off those old graphics. Still annoying af.

Yeah I think you meet him 3 times in the original. Once when you're in sector 7 and he says he's moving away (fleshed out in the remake), once outside the honey bee and once at the Costa Del Sol when I think you can talk with his parents while he's in the shower and I think Tifa is hanging out with him. He was usually banging on about being an old friend of Tifa's as if it's some kind of amazing achievement. So yes spoiler alert he's probably in part 2...

He was never a major character but I and seemingly others found him memorable and it's funny how well they adapt these minor characters as he's EXACTLY how I imagined him.

Most characters are, except Elmyra who I imagined as a gentle portly old dear with a rounded face and not quite the gruff tall skinny hardass we got. But I think they've aimed more for the strong independent woman style than the classic "old Japanese widow who needs someone else to be a servant to now her husband's gone" that tends to go hand in hand with that stereotype, so that's fair enough.

And I oop

oh yeah he hates the Arabs doesn’t he? I’m assuming he will have some revelation later.

Annieways I’ll put it to the back of my mind while he’s nailing Tidus

The character design in FFX was very much TOO MUCH though. Why was everything asymmetrical? Why so many straps? Where does Wakka get his supply of hairspray? How long does Lulu take to get dressed in the morning?

Straps and buckles are pretty big in Japanese fashion.

Rufus' outfit was particularly bizarre, although still quite cool.

SPOILERS FOR EVERYTHING yadayada

This is really interesting, and if that's the way they're taking it then I think I'm on board.
Funny enough it reminds me a bit of Doki Doki Literature Club, where the one who kind of is destined to be deleted becomes self aware and does everything she can to stop it, and drops in hints that she knows. Except Aerith being Aerith this is in the Planet and humanity's interest, not hers

I have every trophy except 2 now, and I can’t for the life of my beat the final (final) boss on hard mode. So I’m currently going for the other trophy I don’t have to get the accessory that gives you loads of limit breaks.
I’m actually quite sad that I’ve almost done everything possible in the game now. Can the next one hurry up!?

I haven't even done any of the New Game+ stuff. Maybe I should aim to be more of a completionist.

There is one fight you will have to do that is easily the hardest fight in the game to get that other achievement. But it is very fun at the same time.

Bit late to the party, but I finished this last night. I actually started as soon as it came out but I kept putting it down for days at a time which probably isn't a good sign.

I feel similar to @Cloud (holy crap at all that analysis :D) in that I thoroughly enjoyed it but had plenty of issues along the way.

First and foremost this was a nostalgia trip and for that alone I'm happy enough. Seeing all these wonderfully recreated locations, you can tell so much love went into it - the music, but mainly all the subtle things like the daft Johnny escapades, remembering old quotes and scenes, the broken item shop in wall market etc. Even putting some items in places they were originally made me squeal a bit.

It looks phenomenal throughout and most of the characterization and dialogue was spot on.

The bosses were INCREDIBLE. This made up somewhat for the quite boring regular fights. Combat was fun, crazy and varied, but occasionally got a bit too manic and frustrating. Sometimes it felt like nothing but a screen of flashes, explosions and ridiculous leaps to the point I had no idea what I was looking it, but it was enjoyable nonsense and very challenging.

The trouble is I found quite a few parts to be a real slog. Sections that were cut out like climbing the plate wall seem so unimportant but whoever said it, you're right, it feels like such a pivotal moment I was sad to see it replaced. That section where you had to navigate to the top of all the debris to get top side I was bored shitless. It all looks so STUNNING so I hated feeling that way but there was also something mundane and anonymous about it. Likewise with the draggy filler areas like Hojo's lab, the second reactor, the collapsed highway etc (although conversely that last part I enjoyed the attention to detail of bringing the big grab hand from the original into use - but I didn't need to see it about 4 times!). Some of the sections were fine however, train graveyard being the biggest improvement and expanding on the spookiness a lot more.

Sometimes it felt slow and clunky - the whole slipping through alleyways/tight spaces and walking, slowly, over pipes and beams and whatnot, there was so much of this and it got SO tedious, a lot of it felt like following a movie. In fact I've just remembered another section I thought would never end - once you escape the church with Aerith the leaping over houses just goes ON AND ON and the sector 6(?) slums again, had me wishing for it to be over because it got so samey and long-winded.

The sidequests by and large seemed pretty inconsequential and tacked on after thoughts although Angel of the Slums clearly QoL of the year.

I also thought they could have gone bigger and bolder with the colosseum and battle simulator. The Gold Saucer version was a lot more entertaining and I think there should have been options that went beyond 5 battles in.a row, but it's a minor gripe. On the flip side, Hell House was astonishing (again, I can't stress enough how fab these bosses are) and the same with fighting summons which was genius and delightful (and really hard!).

Anyway, sounds like a moan, but only because it's easier to pick up on the negatives. I played mainly to meet an old friend and see what she was like now, and I got that. I think there are games that do this stuff way better, if I'd gone into it as new, I don't think I'd appreciate it so much because realistically it's more of a 7 or 8 out of 10 game for me than a 9 or 10. Yet I'm happy it came and I do admire the detail and sheer bombast of everything. It was a spectacle. Just give us part 2 (of 36) now please!

I think I feel VERY similar to you. However I’d give it a solid 9/10 now. I just didn’t want it to end and now I’ve fully got into the battle system I think it’s almost perfect.

On a side note I STILL can’t beat Bahamut in the simulator or the final-final boss on hard mode for the last two trophies :(

I'll watch this later, phone's about to die, but in terms of plot it doesn't feel like much has changed fundamentally when you break it down - they're just a lot more visual and revealing about things. All of that meta self aware whispers stuff clearly a wink to the fact we "know" the outcome as has been said, but the ending definitely hints it could be altered, or has been altered. I think the bare bones will remain the same though.

If they continue to do this in parts then Aerith dying (if she does) will probably happen at the end of one of them so the gameplay isn't remotely affected.

As much as it looks gorgeous, like all of it, the stuff with Sephiroth and whispers and fighting future creations etc at the end was all a bit Kingdom Hearts for me. I'm not sure I feel it really ADDS much, other than a long winded grandiose way of saying "we can change things up here". But like a lot of stuff it was a way to make what was originally a small section of the game into a full one I suppose.

Now I want to attempt hard but fucking hell it sounds hair pullingly awful! I struggled enough with Rufus near the end and loads of others, with items. Oh go on then, I might :)

Is Bahamut just a hard mode option or did I miss that entirely? I know I can chapter select now, but can you do that, picking hard and carry over materia, or is totally starting from scratch on hard?

Once you beat every colosseum and simulator battle you unlock one called “Top Secrets” which is a 5 battles without stopping consisting of:
Shiva
Fat Chocobo
Leviathan
Bahamut
Boss new to the game I can’t remember the name of

All on hard mode with only 50% HP/MP recovery between battles. On my first few goes I couldn’t even knock off 10% of Shiva’s health :D
Looking up some strategies I can now make it to Bahamut but it’s ridiculous. Apparently he spawns Ifrit at some point as well.

Save up your limit breaks, I managed to take him out with Cloud and Tifa just destroying him the second he appeared, with Aerith dual-casting Blizzaga just to be safe.

See I thought Rufus was impossible on Normal mode because I couldn’t work out how to hit him. It was only when I got to Hard mode where I worked out you can only really get a clean hit on him when he reloads.

I’m yet to see a limit break in any of the battles! But I’m using the glass canon strategy at the moment so that might be why.

The only part I hated was going up the plate pillar with just Cloud. Omg that was frustrating AS FUCK.

@Raining On Me you do seem to have had a similar take to me on it (btw it was also me who loved the GOLDEN SHINY WIRE OF HOPE plate climbing moment in the original and was sad to see the whole sequence canned, though I'd have understood just canning the weird puzzle stuff about shoving a battery in a slot to ride a propeller)

Like you, I wasn't meaning to sound like a moaner and actually thought it was brilliant, but as ever it's more interesting to bring up negatives :p

It's pretty amazing that a linear non-open world RPG can be so successful in 2020.

OMG I CRY.
I’ve made it to Pride & Joy twice now but been so battered I couldn’t do it. I think it’s just a couple of low MP Up and Magic Up materia and I’d be fine.
I’ve literally spent about 5 hours on this bloody battle though.

So yeah this track is in the Beat Saver database for custom Beat Saber tracks... took some practice to scrape through without failing (pretty much by sheer luck) but a fun track!
