Has anybody watched this?

It was QUITE HARROWING but incredibly TOUCHING and the gay bits were a nice new addition to this sort of story. I certainly wasn't expecting any ACE OF BASE or my beloved ROXETTE to pepper the soundtrack of an AFGHAN REFUGEE DOCUDRAMA

I lost it at the

coming out scene. I was ready for his brother to take him to a brothel and force him to have sex with a prostitute.

But it was EXHILARATING (amidst a SEA OF DESPAIR). Wonderfully refreshing.

I know it was a documentary but I would have loved to have seen a bit more of Amir's present-day life and how he deals with trauma and survivor's guilt. His boyfriend seemed a bit SELF-ABSORBED but then he was very underwritten.

Exquisite soundtrack too. And the closing song is quite ADELE/BILLIE EILISH/BONDESQUE I must investigate who it was!

I've heard REALLY good reviews for this but was a little put off by the £15 cost to see it on Curzon Home Cinema! I'll see if I can pester my godmother into investing

The movie itself was lovely, it’s nice to see a gay who made it out ok.

Also I love that we actually don’t know who he is despite the movie being award catnip.

LOVED this! (well love as much as you can in regards to such a horrific story)

Agreed in regards to knowing more about Amir's present day life (it basically TURBO CHARGES through time once he gets to the gay club ), but I'm assuming that is to do with keeping his anonymity in present day Denmark/dealings in Sweden. I really could have watched another hour or so, it flew by.

The anxiety I felt with the scene that started in the forest Very much a reality check on how lucky we ARE.

it's been out here for yonks in the cinema but I only just watched it last night (free streaming )

it was so good. tears and laughter and that moment that makes your little gay heart flutter

I was racking my brains to figure out who it might be I mean the crowd here is rather tiny and those privileged enough to buy an architect's house in the countryside even fewer. of course I have no idea who it is, just village syndrome

on a more serious note it made me think long and hard about this Afghan boy who came to our class in school in the late 90s. we could've done better and I'm sorry we didn't (also why the fuck didn't the GROWN UPS think to tell us about how to deal with a kid who fled from war?! kids are morons, they don't figure these things out by themselves). I wonder how he's doing now. omg maybe it's him

Well this was an absolute stunner. I'm glad, as I'd built it up in my head after all the relentless hype but it really lived up to it.

The animation worked so well for the story and there were countless moments when it just hit really hard. My two favourite moments were the cackle describing being at the club ("I didn't go home!") and the moment the view of the garden at the new house cut into video footage of the same. Both just so full of the now real promise of life ahead after what he had been through.
