One of my all time favourite Christmas songs (although it's not really even a Christmas song).
 
I am enjoying the Gabrielle Aplin version as well, I must say.
 
I hate it. And it's NOT a FUCKING CHRISTMAS SONG
 
do you know I'm threatening my status as an old musical bore here but I think I prefer her version to the original :o

It's just so COLD and MAGICAL. She actually HAS turned it into a Christmas song!
 
I love her version. The quietness of the arrangement really brings the melodrama of the lyrics to the fore.
 
It's the best of these John Lewisified covers so far by some distance. HATED Slow Moving Millie and Ellie Goulding's bland efforts. I do feel it works better in 90 second form than as a full song though.

The original is king though.
 
I listened to the FGTH version just this very morning. Its great. JFK used to play a dance version of it in Passion when I first started raving. I wish I still had that.
 
A total 10. The Gabrielle version's great too but it doesn't touch this. The string sections make me swoon.

Amazing song. I do prefer Gabrielle's version though. As has been said, the more understated arrangement offsets the melodrama beautifully.
 
This one never really does much in the Christmas charts does it? Another victim of America-centric playlisting, or is it just too slow?
 
The Christmas thing comes from the video (which the record company forced Holly Johnson into appearing in) and the time it was originally released. It's slow and very long which probably also doesn't help its cause these days.

I absolutely love it, both versions.
 
In a similar vein I don't see much bump ever for 2 Become 1. A "Christmas song" but not a Christmas song. On the main Spotify playlist I see only explicitly Christmas songs...
