Friday just can't hold back

I may have been a bit pissed last night, but not so bad that I wasn't able to put the rubbish and recycling out.

Without my knowledge a certain cat who should know better decided to make a run for it out the back door.

Fast forward to 5.30 this morning and my dreams were telling me KITTY IS MISSING. Queue much frantic searching around the house. It was only when I opened the back door that a rather vocal kitty came running in having been in the neighbours garden. It's not his first escape act, but it's rare and the first time he'd escaped over night without our knowledge. Happily he knows where he's best off.

I know a cat roaming gardens isn't especially wild, but he's such a house cat and doesn't understand cars.

Kitty is pretty easy going to be fair, I imagine if he was an outdoor cat he'd pretty good at it, he gets on with other cats and is resourceful. But we have foxes and other assorted threats that roam the back gardens here.

But still he's an indoor cat for good reason, plus it keeps him so clean and soft and makes strokes a pure joy. No one likes stroking a grubby pussy.

There are TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY THREE of them now, apparently. Or at least there were when they opened their sixth here last week. Their very first one (just called The Lounge) is still here, expanded twice since it opened in 2002.


And they own Cosy Club - that's a decent sized chain as well, isn't it?

Our three are indoor. None of them show much interest in getting outdoors, although we're still careful with doors and windows.

I wonder if it's because they associate leaving the house with going to the vet.

He came home bumping into everything, and somehow in a panic bolted through the locked catflap and disappeared into the night. We were really worried, he was outside in the dark without his senses and stayed up really late trying to coax him back in (this was also recently after Tig moving in so they were also upset by that!)

We set a camera up in the garden and around 5am two little glowing eyes appeared. He'd finally relented and came back. Was a really scary night though. I think it was pissing it down as well.

The girl cat on occasion has bolted out of the front door when I'm doing the bins (we live in a row of terraced houses and they only have access to the back), but she normally panics herself and gets back inside quickly enough.

A Deliveroo driver with a Maccies delivery has been frantically knocking on window mayo house for about 10 minutes. Imagine ignoring a takeaway delivery, especially what is clearly a hangover one.

Oh the trashy mum who's banned from all taxi companies has just claimed it. They're about 10 houses apart. I think they must be banned from deliveries as well. They always use other houses for taxi pick ups, because the taxi companies refuse to pick up from their address.

Trying to get out of some birthday drinks in bloody Walthamstow tonight as I want to watch the Olympic ceremony. Heathcliff was strictly an indoor cat. And never showed any interest in escaping.

And after working at the vets for 8 years and seeing the things I saw, I'd never let any cat out in the future unless it was a secure garden and I was with him.

Same thing really. As we deal with Uber, they connect it to Uber Eats delivery accounts too. Have even reviewed allegations of major assaults against Uber Eats delivery people just for having some argument on the phone about not being able to find their address. It’s usually the complainants that are the perpetrators.

I remember looking up a difficult customer on FB, when I worked for The Scum. Her whole feed was just proudly announcing all the shitty scams she'd achieved.

Oh yes, you realise why the press gets a good story every 6 months or so about someone who was on disability benefits because they couldn't walk posting their holiday photos with them waterskiiing, giving it loads on a bucking bronco and running a 10K.

Here's a tip - if you're claiming you didn't buy something, don't pose with it in a photo on yr instagram.

We were discussing it at work recently because our workload has increased tenfold over the last decade. All since the apps were invented. Back in the day getting a taxi home was kind of a last resort and at a cost. Even getting a takeaway was considered a one off treat every now and again. Now it’s an app in your hand and people use them daily even though they can’t afford it. The “nutter on the night bus” now gets a minicab.

Don’t even get me started on the entitled “Karens” thinking an Uber should be acting like a stretch limo driver - the irony being my colleague Karen is the least Karen-like person you’d ever meet.
