09 Radio On - WOW. The last song just served as a taster for this gem. This is stunning. There is a classic sound to this, very Americana, and she strips this one back even more than the last. The production here reminds of artists like Amos Lee and Shawn Colvin, melodic country pop, with a bit of Bonnie Raitt/Natalie Merchant singer-songwriter mentality layered into it. Her voice sounds beautiful, she sounds in pain here, emotive, yearning. This is what the album is meant to be; I can sort of understand her or her label's reservations in committing to this for a whole album, but it's a shame these songs have been disguised for a more inferior product. I hope there's more of this.

No. He started working with her on this album but If Only could have been written by him (even though it was penned by Ariel Rechtshaid)
 
06 Love - this is going back to the sounds of the start of the album, but it hangs together much better here and she sounds better too. It's like the last 2 songs breathed new life into the album. Maybe she should have been BRAVE and opened the album with Shelby/Radio On and the rest of the album would flow better. ANyway this is not my favourite Kylie sound but it's more fun, interesting and uplifting than some of the dirge that came earlier so I'll accept it.

It's nowhere near the same league but the verses on Raining Glitter really do remind me of Beth Orton's Central Reservation. Just the verses, mind.
 
06 Raining Glitter - I recognise this for some reason. Why does this sound like a forebearer to DISCO? :o Madonna used to do that a lot - a song from one album acting as a precurser to the next. The only thread that links it to this album is the guitar riffs but they're not country enough for it to sound disconnected - this is clearly a disco song. Her slighter voice is more on display here but she does sound nice on it, because she sounds so much more at home bringing in more soulful lilts to her vocal delivery.

I'm still AGOG about how front loaded the tosh is on this album. I'm really not following what the intention was for the concept. @RJN is right - the middle is so much better, and almost a separate album sonically.
 
07 Music's Too Sad Without You - I recognise this too I think. This is really nice too. The production is lovely. I like Jack Savoretti's voice too. So far the ballads and acoustic laments are far far superior to the uplifting pop tunes and given that this is Kylie that's a bit of a mistep, but I'll take the positive here that this album does have some good songs after all.

I genuinely think this is one of her best duets. Yes I realise that is damning it with faint praise.
 
07 Lost Without You - This is another uplifting pop track, like a downtempo version of "A Lifetime To Repair" but leagues better. The EDM nonsense is replaced by some lovely synthwave production which is much closer to the 2018 sound than some of the other pop choices this album makes. Really like this.

I have basically the entirely opposite view to you on this album :D Love all the initial songs, and Radio On is probably my least favourite. I actually really like the album, and it was such an exciting time to be a Kylie fan around this time
 
04 Every Little Part Of Me - this is going back to the concept of the album with a bit of a mix of sounds here and relying on too many safe radio pop tropes for me to care too much, but it's nowhere near as offensive as some of the other EDM tracks. It sounds a little unfinished though, like an album reject.

It started off as a generous 6 and by the end I was close to giving it an 8. Definitely more of a first listen score, there's a couple of songs here that could be growers.
 
04 Rollin' - this is very similar to the last one. They're just repeating ideas now. She sounds a bit more invested in the second half of the album for some reason. But I could take or leave this. It doesn't really do anything for me, it feels empty.
 
This album contains some of the best lyrics of her career, sometimes paired with subpar production.

I suppose Sky Adams needs to take much of the blame for this. He admitted he didn't really know how to tackle the country element.

Absolutely awful song
 
06 Low Blow - this is not my bag but it is at least quite fun and mixes up the sounds a little. I like it when Kylie plays around a bit because it allows her to show off the versatility of her voice. I'd never go back to this but I'm giving it credit for being creative and bold.

He really fucking didn't. There's a lot you can do with country influences and MANY pop stars over the years have done well with it. This isn't it.

Just playing Lost Without You again. It did stick with me by the time it ended.
 
Be sure to listen to the single version of Stop Me From Falling tacked onto the end of the album, too! The collaboration makes the song make a lot more sense, in my opinion.
 
I started listening to the new version of SMFF but it just sounded like the same song so I stopped it... is it the same song but with a duet vocal?

Just watch the video. She looks stunning and the reggaeton element improves it.

The way this album falls of a cliff very quickly and then is saved by a couple of acoustic ballads in the middle. It evens out nicely with some nice pop later on, but overall this was not one for me. I doubt anyone expected it to be.

I've upped Shelby and LWY to 8s on a second listen.
