I thought Arya's ending couldn't have been more fitting actually... surely that makes total sense!

I was a bit 'bleugh' at Bran getting it too, so I was glad that Sansa kept the North at least. I think it would have made no sense at all for the 'winner' to be someone with no aspiration whatsoever, so Sansa keeping part of it made sense.

I thought Emilia Clarke gave the performance of her life this episode.

So glad Jon didn't 'win'. But really would have been much happier if the dragon had finished him off.

Overall, think they did a decent job with that episode in making clear the fates of all the characters.

Also loving the fact that Lena Headey got another million dollars for another incredible performance this episode... :D
 
She wasn’t making a million, that’s an incorrect meme.

Anyway, I didn’t much care for the majority of the finale, things I liked:

1. Brienne updating Jaime’s wiki entry. Gwendoline Christie is a great actress.
2. The imagery of Daenerys especially with the dragon and when it carries her dead body away
3. Sansa’s coronation, yaaaasss kween etc
4. The Stark epilogue including Sansa’s coronation
5. Edmure Tully acting a fool
6. The small council scene

Things that didn’t work for me:
1. The flip in Dany’s character was too abrupt and I felt bad for the character when she got shafted so bad
2. All the Tyrion speeches, very heavy handed and that bitch does not have any credibility
3. Why make Bran such a disconnected unfeeling character if he’s going to end up as King? Wouldn’t he better having a semblance of a personality
4. That whole election meeting, why would anyone decide to be ruled by Bran when Sansa can just declare herself as queen? Wouldn’t everyone else just fuck off and be King and Queen?
 
not even all the way through but what a sensationally awful end note to one of the best shows ever.
 
So I got up early this morning to watch it

My initial reaction is hmmm.

Here’s the things I liked:

1. Queen Sansa, all hail the Queen of the North!
2. Jon having to go back to the nights watch was a lol and being reunited with Ghost and Tormund was a nice touch given previous complaints.
3. Brienne writing Jamie’s history. It meant a lot to Jamie so it was a nice way to tie up their storyline.
4. The scene where Tyrion finds Jamie and Cersei
5. Danys entrance with the Dragon behind her. That was iconic.

Things I didn’t like:

1. For a show that’s been so unpredictable what a predictable way to end things with peace in the seven kingdoms.
2. Bran. He has been such a nothingy character that I just can’t get on board with that. They could have at least made him evil.
3. Jamie and Cersei actually being dead. Still not over how they were written out.
4. Danys death. They should have done a double swerve and had her knife Jon too.

Also the editing is infuriating at times. I know they’ve only got an hour and 20 minutes but Jon passes Grey Worm to go meet Dany. He walks by her army and somehow is met by Grey Worm again before he gets to her? Meanwhile Danys army multiplies by the scene.

Mixed feelings about Arya the explorer on her gap year. They didn’t really give her much to do in that episode.
 
It was a beautiful ending, the last couple of minutes saved the episode, but I also liked Dany’s and Brienne’s parts as well.

Good:
- Good thing that Cersei and Jamie were actually dead. It would have been silly if they’d survive.

- Dany’s speech to the army, and then her deluded soft version with Jon.

- Brienne updating Jamie’s profile

- Arya Magellan Columbus

- Sansa’s coronation

- Jon with the wildlings

Bad:

- Bran. ”Why do you think I came all the way up here?” :zombie: Most shocking line of the season.

- If Worm and his fucking army would leave Westeros anyway, why sending Jon away?

- Wasn’t the wall torn down?

- What happened to all the millions that lived in The Reach?
 
God that was really shit wasn’t it.

Queen Sansa was pretty much the only redeeming feature.
 
ugh at i-want-independence sansa. like everyone else wouldn't fuck off if she got it.

the only thing i liked was brienne ('s delusion cause i identify) and arya's spin-off moment (though i hate her and that grin at the end was ghastly).
i don't even want to get into.

not that it means much but this season's episode ratings on imdb so far:

1 - 8.0
2 - 8.3
3 - 7.9
4 - 6.0
5 - 6.6
6 - 5.2
 
Those ratings are shockingly low. Isn’t GoT one of the highest ranked shows on IMDB?

I agree with this being the weakest season though...

...which means The Wire is still the best HBO show.
 
I think we knew Dany would not make it until the end of the series. Even after her killing the majority of innocent civilians at Kings Landing I was still willing her to win. She was by far the best character throughout the series and it would have been a fitting end if she killed Jon Snow rather than him live and be banished back to the Nights Watch with a life of celibacy. Although I think the likely spin-off’s may now well be Jon Snow with the wild ones and Arya’s adventures to the unknown.
 
Dany wasn’t one of myfavourite characters. But what they did to her this season was awful. :(

I think the only character they got spot on was Sansa.
 
I really wanted Drogon to kill Jon. And frankly, I don't see why Dany would have bothered keeping Tyrion prisoner and wouldn't have just killed him on the spot. It made no sense. So the Big 5 of Jaime, Cersei, Dany, Tyrion and Jon would all have died then, which I think would have been good - none of the big players surviving the Game.

I also just think that Dany would have been far more likely to kill Jon than the other way round, however silver-tongued Tyrion might be made out to be.
 
Well at least Jon didn't win, but I still don't understand why the Night's Watch is still a thing.
 
Also for an ending that's supposed to represent a big political shift from the past, I was really disappointed to see a High Council meeting just like they all used to be, with the same table, same positions etc. Not sure the wheel has been broken...
 
The more you think about that finale the worse it becomes.

For now (and maybe full stop) I'll stick with FUCK OFF TYRION.

I'm actually quite emotional about the end of the show. Dany's death was sad, she was one of my favourites, but it had to happen. I'm glad it's not Jon, and even though Bran is such a shit choice, it does make sense that since no one's happy about it, it must be the best compromise.

Also, the Starks rule the whole world now, Bran the six kingdoms, Sansa the North and Jon the savages :disco:
 
I didn't think it was that bad given the context of the whole season.
 
Yeah I really enjoyed the finale to be honest. They wrote themselves into the most horrible corner this season but considering the horrors of episode 5, this one resolved everything in quite a satisfying way. For me Game of Thrones has always been about the Starks so the heavy focus on them and that montage at the end set me right off :( I think I also cried for poor stoic Brienne and even when Jon entered Castle Black and saw Tormund (I have problems clearly). It was all just really emotional.

As soon as the time jump happened it just felt like a huge weight had been lifted. The silly stuff with Tyrion chairing the council meeting was such a throwback to early GoT. I'll probably watch it again. It's not the finale we dreamed off a year or two ago but it could have been considerably worse.
 
I was disappointed. It all felt a bit like a show that got cancelled half way through filming and they had to tie everything up quickly in the last 2 episodes. :square:

Yes, it was rushed (although honestly, early seasons were too slow - rewatching I can hardly believe we went through two seasons of Robb's army moving south) but it remained great television and the ending was good too. Loved that the Starks won everything, and each of their endings was perfect. Enjoyed the new small council too.
 
P.s. the spoilers were 97% right, and I could have made money from Bran being king. The bookies were too slow to react to the spoilers.

But when Tyrion, Sam, Bronn and Brienne sat down at the Small Council, I couldn't help but wonder what Cersei would've said if she saw what the Small Council had become :D We'll never know
 
I'm pretty sure that any show that becomes as big as GoT did, it automatically becomes "overrated" just by default.
 
Sam putting The Song of Ice and Fire on that table is an all time low point for the the show along with the fingering scene from season 1 and “you want a good girl but you need the bad pussy” from season 5.
