Gavin & Stacey

Gwen and Mick both feel like they've got so much potential that isn't used... That's why they have to do a 3rd series I think. How Mick has put up with Pam after all these years is beyond me.

I've got inlaws in Gwent (now there's an admission), and they use 'what's occurring'.

I love Nessa's 'Oh!' which I assume is used instead of 'Oi!', although I've no idea if that's authentic as well. I'd imagine it must be, though.

Oh, and Barry IS a shit pit. Think of somewhere like Weston Super Mare or Morecombe and imagine it about three times worse.

I broadly agree but would make some slight amendments...

Characters

1. Bryn
2. Nessa
3. Smithy
4. Pam
5. Stacey
6. Gavin
7. Gwen
8. Mick

The best ACTORS in order are:

1. Bryn (I cannot think of anyone else who could have played that part)
2. Nessa
3. Pam
4. Smithy
5. Gwen
6. Mick
7. Stacey
8. Gavin

I would go with your lists Octy, you have the characters spot on. I loved the first series on the stag night when Smithy was drunk in the kebab shop "I don't care if Jesus wants you for a fucking sunbeam mate!" and on the wedding day "Look, no one wants this marriage to fail more than I do"

You SHOULD def Emma.

I keep meaning to pick up the first series on DVD, its only like £8 in HMV/Zavvi

Mick IS under used. He's great! One of those characters who can make you laugh through exasperated facial expression and voice tone alone.

And I DID fancy Matthew Horne until I saw his side profile in tonight's episode. :(

She played quite a similar part to Pam in half-arsed Brit-flick Confetti.

Pam is competing with her Mrs Bennett (from the original BBC version of Pride & Prejudice) for my ALL TIME FAVOURITE ALISON STEADMAN ROLE

Both GREAT, but haven't you seen Abigail's Party?

That's one of the best comedic performances EVER

I think Pam is very similar to her role in Life Is Sweet.

Matthew Horne IS fit. And I really do think he must be a LITTLE BIT GAY. :D Because I say so.

He looks like the crazy frog. Both facially and in his gangly legs.

Nessa's 'I don't want another Fatwa taken out against me' and Pam's 'I always thought your name was Colin' were the two best lines of the last episode.

I'm so sad that there's only supposed to be one more episode. :( This really could and should run and run...

Oh I know I know I know, but I can't BEAR the thought of not seeing more of these people!! :D

Apparently Horne and Corden have written something, due to start in the Autumn... As much as I LIKE Horne and he seems a nice guy, he really is getting a lot of work on very little talent isn't he...

I hope they repeat Series 2 soon. I only recently discovered how amazing this is.

Ruth Jones is an absolute legend.

Although my favourite scene in the first series was Pam's drunken rant at Gwen during the wedding argument.

"Shut up you SHEEP SHAGGING BITCH!"* (Or something to that effect).

It's not the most original insult to level at a Welsh person, but Alison Steadman's delivery, combined with Gwen's stunned reaction had me absolutely howling. :D

Alison Steadman has been outstanding with every line she delivers.

"I just love the drama!" when everyone was running around panicking about Nessa was AMAZING

Actually... while I feel I SHOULD love Steadman all the time in it, I sometimes find her delivery doesn't quite fit with the gentle humour of all the other characters.

Ruth Jones was talking backstage at the baftas about a move to BBC1 for the next series so its looking like the xmas special wont be the end

Apart from anything else, they will be offered much bigger paycheques for another series than anything else they may want to do. It's going to be difficult for them to turn it down.

OK, is this actually any good? I know next to nothing about it and am terribly curious. Is it out on DVD?

I've heard they were definitely doing a third series, seeing as it's found popularity so late on...

How much is it on amazon? I know it's cheap in Zavvi.

Well you can see our comments. Try downloading an episode or seeing if it's on iPlayer.

Oh and incidentally, no matter how much I love Nessa (and I do), she's not a patch on Linda from 'Nighty Night' for me.

To be honest Rita, I mean this without exception: EVERYONE I know that has watched it, has enjoyed it. It's funny, but even if you don't like the humour, you'll find it watchable because the characters are just so WATCHABLE.

See, I've been watching Series 1 of Nighty Night again (watched the first 4 episodes in the last 24 hours) and Linda is not a patch on Nessa for me. Fantastically different characters - in some ways, the complete opposites. Nessa is just a wonderful creation though. Linda was always overshadowed by Jill, who basically ruled the entire series.
